storage of batteries for winter

What should I do to help save the batteries over the winter when I cannot fly? Is it best to cycle the batteries and leave fully charged or to cycle and leave discharged?

It doesn't make any difference if you charge them first or not. Do remove them from the equipment (unplug the connectors at least) to prevent damage should one burst its seal or leak. The most important thing is; when you are going to use them again, to give them a slow charge at c/10 rate. Charge for at least 14 to 15 hours at C/10 the first time after long storage or if new. If you have a cycler, I would do one cycle at least on the units after they are brought back into service.

I always cycle my batteries once a month and leave them fully charged. I've had good success with that, but am I wasting my time doing something not necessary? I don't think so but I'd like some others' input. What's your insight Huber, dr woqs, air bear, etc. This question is making me think which is "frightening" but a sign of a good question.
