Where to start oever?
 

So this is not a generic where do I start question.. rather custmized to my skill level...

About 12 years ago I flew a nitro trainer airplane i bought ARF (hobbico brand I think) with a buddy cord on weekends, I didn't get to do it alone. And a few years ago I tried to hover a 30 class nitro heli that I built from kit.

I want to get back in the hobby and start with airplaines again, out of the current ones on the market which do you suggest I look at? And I guess a flight simulator as well RC Flight? latest version?

Any help would be nice.

Try going to a local club and see if they have an instructor. Most of us that teach have a trainer and buddy box so there is nothing except fuel for a student to buy. I even loan out my Sim to students. No reason to buy stuff if you don't need to. After I get a student to solo I let them fly my trainer until they buy there own plane and gear. Depending on how well they can handle the trainer decides what kind of plane to buy. Usually something like a Pulse or 4*. I also teach building and have been using the 4* 60 as the learning aid.

you can get a good deal on relflight 3-5 on ebay... unless you have money to spend, and dont mind dropping 200 on the latest flight sim(rf 6) then go for it

If you decide to buy a trainer, as far as Electric foam goes I really like the Apprentice. Easy to fly, tough, parts are inexpensive and readily a available. It also seems to do inverted and other maneuvers better than a lot of high wing planes.

I also have realflight. Basic is ok, but if you have extra change the full version is nice.

As a first step this would be a time to re-activate my MAAC membership for the rest of this year and 2012 since I live in Canada.  Isn't that required to fly any type of model airplane?

I don't know about Canada, but here in the US, most clubs require the AMA membership (it's not a license) for the insurance coverage.

I basically do what Gene, Gray Beard, does. I bought a trainer that I consider a club trainer and allow new folks to use it, usually to see if this is what they want to do, then to give them flight time as they are trying to figure out what to get for themselves.

You don't need the latest and greatest flight simulator. The newer ones just have tons of great new features that you don't need. So going on Ebay and picking up an older version cheap is a good idea.

Something else to consider is: Glow or Electric?

And if you can obtain 3.5 you are eligible for the inexpensive upgrade to G6...

Of course that requires a legitimate 3.5 version with Interlink...

Yes, MAAC membership is required to fly at any club. You can re-up your MAAC membership on line if you like or print out a form and send it in.
