Newbie Introduction!

Hi All,

Just thought Iwould take the time to introduce myself, as I have been lurking on the forum for a while and thought it was about time Isaid hi.
Iwork for a magazine publishers, and through good old peer pressure Ihave been persuaded to give flying a go!

Icurrently have a ParkZone Super Cub that Ihave taken out a few times with my tutor, and any additional advice that can be given will be greatly recieved.

Thanks!
Claire

Your friends should be severely chastised for leading you down this path of utter degradation!

Welcome to the wonderful world of flight!

Now go to your local hobby shop and meet the man to whom you will be giving all of your money from now on. :D

Hi Claire,

As I see it your biggest problem is going to be finding somewhere flat enough to land in Malvern!:D:D:D

I grew up not too far away in Gloucester and my recollection of Malvern is wall to wall hills!!! I live a little further south now.

Sounds like it's too late to warn you off, so welcome to the hobby (aka addiction). Hope you have plenty of storage space!

Terry

Hello Claire,

Welcome to Incurable/ full of Withdrawal, receding Addiction:D. I've been victim of these conditions like many others:D.

No doubt it's a great hobby and it also hurts you emotionally as well, specially when you lose a plane and emotional pain does not go for long time but again, this is hobby and we always hope for the best of the best[8D].

I always say about this hobby it has 3P's, Patience, Persistence and Perseverance,. My flying mates added another P, which is Pay Check.

Have a safe flight and enjoy.;)

Hi Terry,
Ah yes - the hills proved to be a slight problem on Sunday! It has been stupidly gusty in the UKthis week, with gale warnings and all sorts, so with the wind coming off the hills it made things interesting!!!
And with regards to storage space.....am already wondering how my partner can condense his fishing equipment so that Ican have his storage space http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gif
Thanks

As one of Claire's nominated instructors I can say she has a real passion for the hobby, natural talent for flying (between me and the guys its quite upsetting how good she really is at this early stage)
The model Claire started with is the good old Park Zone Cub which handles wind surprisingly well, but for a second model we selected the Ripmax (UK) Wot 4E a 4 channel foamie 3s 2200 Li-Po model that has a thick wing and nice handling.
Claire (possibly joking!) asked if it was Pink! I like a fool said Yes (really blue normally) so had to break out the vinyl...
We all think it looks great.

Hey Dave. Would you believe that while in training, I saw factory Ripmax Rapiers flyhing in formation at the North Weald Wings and Wheels Extravaganza several years ago. I bought one about 6 months later, then finally got enough nerve to fly the thing. My instructor, Ron, maidened it for me and I flew it seveal times. It had an OS 50 SX on it back then. What a fun flying machine that was. Wow. It was fast, but very predictable. We clocked it using a police RADAR gun.. 123.5 mph.

I was there on business at the Raytheon plant in Harlow, north of London most of that summer but had to have one. Very neat plane. I eventually sold it, and believe the guy that bought it from me still has it.

I love the pink plane!

Many years ago I built a Tiger II for my son and did a great Tiger Stripe design on it. A few years later I built a Tiger 60 for my wife, so I did the same design in Pink and Pearl

Welcome Claire,
Sure wish I could talk my wife into flying! She doesn't care for any aspect of it. She did try and fly my night vapor. And she said there are too many moving parts! :D.
Minn Flyer and the other nailed it, you will get addicted and will spend all your spare money on this hobby.

The Rapier was a very popular model, think we all had them! WW is still going strong and last year the big mass model thing was Habu's. Claire should be flying at WW soon ;) I have a Habu tucked away so pre turbine flying we have something a little cheaper to test the reactions with. I guess I need to order in some more Pinks, I guess a Pink Habu foamie is a possibility...hadn't had the thought till just now...Mmmm think I'll use my teenage Sons example...he'll freek after :D
Claire has three good tutors guiding her through the early stages...she then says "look out guys"

Hi Dave.

Well, all I can say is "Good for her". We have a few lady RC'ers here on RCU. My reference is to Bev from Fort Lauderdale, FL. She has been very encouraging for lady RC pilots. She started here as a student with several very enthusiastic instructors and, as of late, I believe, is flying large scale, 3D, and I think, jets! Imagine that!! And, at the last contact that I know if, she was elected President of her club. So, keep working with Claire. She sounds like she is really interested and wants to move forward. As I said, good for her!!! AND.. good for you and your fellow instructors.

I'll post a link to Bev's thread. It's quite lengthly as she was quite popular here (still is, if she would only log in and post from time to time.. :D )

Here is the link to Bev's "forum". Heck, she might as well have her own.. as you will see. As I said, she is quite popular here. Ummm... note the "pink" that is Bev's "signature" [8D]

Welcome Claire don't let them rag on pink planes. Bev is a total pink freak and I know another lady on the wattflyer forum that has a few pinks in her hanger.
Even tough guys like pink and purple!!:D

Guys

Claire had her first lesson today with "Pinky" This was her first aileron flights and after 4 good flights on the Cub in the morning, I felt she was ready. Its amazing how quickly this young lady is picking up flying, by the second 7 minute flight she was correcting wings level after the turn almost naturally. Third and fourth flights were even better in failing light (winter days are so short here!)
Exciting news for Claire is a deal with JR Propo with an XG8 radio coming her way very soon.
