if you have castor in your fuel you will have an nonremoveable film of oil on everything in the motor too! good for flying season i never use any "after run" oil while i am flying the plane. now when its time to put it up for the winter yiou can add some type of oil if you like, just remember to spin the prop about once a week to keep it on the parts because it will be all on the bottom of the engine!


i just make sure the engine is empty of fuel at the end of the day and put her up!

goin on 10 yrs same engine noooo problems!

of course you will get about a 50/50 mix of people who say use it to those who say don't use it! just do what makes you feel safer!

oh yes get yourself some mufflers!! most flyin sites won't let ya run un muffled!!

that is if they don't already have them on there. from what u said that they are loud i would think they don't. can u send me a pic and i'll let ya know!

The fox has these two pipes coming straight off at a 90. They have a slight depression in them... but they do have a fuel pressure nipple. it's not that loud at 1/4 but it's pretty loud at full. maybe louder than a big weed eater but higher pitch.

well thats a "muffler" sounds like a pitts, they do make better more efficient ones if you feel its too loud. but it should be ok as long as nobody else protests!!

I don't know if you are running Fox engines or not but they are a bit different than your average Chinese - Taiwanese - Japanese Clone engine.

Fox actually says to use ONLY castor oil in their engines but most Fox experts will agree that if you have at least some castor you will be OK. It's usually a good idea to follow directions at least in the beginning.

Castor gives additional protection in the event of a lean run. If you never get a hole in your fuel line or an air leak anywhere then heck you can run 100% synth oil all day long. You could probably knock the oil percentage down to 10% like the car guys do and get some real 3D power! But I sure wouldn't do it!

However many folks, like Fox prefer the extra protection: just in case.

Short plugs are designed to be used in the smaller engines, usually .15 and smaller. Long plugs are used in the larger engines.

By the way most Fox engines .40 and larger don't like too much Nitro. Most were designed to be used with 10% or less.

castor oil has the ability to lubricate at higher tempuratures where synthetics desintegrate, and also castor oil prevents rust better than synthetics.

yes thats what i meant, i have run many fox engines, cut my teeth flyin Fox 35's on c/l planes in the 70's
i always use fuel with castor, heck its almost impossible to get it off of a metal part once its on there! to me thats good lube!!

ranchpig...synthetics start to burn at about 450F but castor is about 550F so it'll stay a liquid longer. When synthetics get hot they break down immediately into the various chemicals that were used to make them. When castor gets hot enough to break down it turns into yet another lubricant. It keeps doing this until you get to the dreaded varnish which just happens to be a lubricant as well :)

But medicinal castor is no good because it's had an extra refining process that takes most of the good lubricating qualities out of it.
