Hi everyone,

I am a beginner to RC hobbies....so i need some advise. Since I am a beginner, i was told that it is neccessary to have a simulator at home to practice flying. I am wondering what is the appropiate simulator for a beginner like me flying trainer planes.

It's not necessary, but it helps. (After all, many of the guys here learned to fly long before there were simulators). :D

Try FMS it's got tons of downloadable planes but be ware there isn't any wind in it. Also some of the downloadable planes are ridiculously overpowered.

Sims are nice, but as stated, you don't have to use one. Most of us learned before they were invented and we all did alright. You need a good instructor and a buddy box. A sim is a nice to have thing. If you don't want to spend the money on it, don't

Hi there!

I guess I wouldn`t be flying without my simulator. Started flying with a Siemens Fujitsu Gamebird and the RC Planemaster ( http://www.realitycraft.com ). Costs Money but after trying all kinds of Sims it turned out to be the best for me. Every part on the planes is calculated for Aerodynamics individually, you have wind, gusts, failures and what not… and if you get bored, there’s a split screen mode for doing air combat with RC Models with a friend. Another nice feature is tuning the planes to match the performance of your real one. You can adjust almost everything on the models.

Apart from that there’s a good relationship to the programmers via Email or the Forum.

You can get yourself a cheap RC for your PC on Ebay (especially the German Ebay.de) or buy a RC which can be connected to your PC for starters. A cheap connectable RC would be the Nova 4/6 from Ikarus.

Thanks for the reply, what is a buddy box? Is real Flight G2 a good flight simulator? I am trying to find a Instructor for myself. I have a futaba skysport 4 channel radio.

In my opinion Real Flight G2 is the best simulator out there. (But I've only used Real Flight, Dave Brown's, and FMS.)

It will be very difficult, even with a simulator, to learn without an instructor. Many people have done it, but very few without crashing a lot.

only $10-40 bucks

2. Go down to your local radio shack a buy a PSX to USB converter (cat No. 26-304)
only $10 bucks.

Hi again!
Without wanting to miscredit anybody but the fms is, imho, more a toy than a sim. Not much more you can learn there except the turnside effekt when flying towards you. Most of the free Models for FMS on the web have disastrous values. If youre gonna start with a sim, why not do it proper with wind and all? Not saying FMS is bad, for freeware sim its great but youll be having a hell of a time going solo with only FMS experience.

yes fms dose have wind and thermals and i have to agree some planes are over powered like a glider that does 700mph
but this game is cheaper then great planes simulator that costs 300$. In fms you use your controller with a link that hooks up to your printer port.

The Controller is usually plugged into the game/midi Port, not the LPT1 Printer Port!

The config I'm using cost me 70 USD (20 USD the NEW Controller on Ebay and 49 USD the Sim online) all in all with the Gamebird 5 channel controller and the RC-Planemaster. When you buy the Planemaster you also get the Ikarus Aerofly program with it and theres also lots of stuff to download for it.

So maybe a cheap Alternative would be the twenty bucks for the Gamebird and the Aerofly to get started.

@ Procrastinator: check for "Gamebird" on ******** and you are bound to find something. Can't send you a link because Ebay is blocked here in the Company.
@ falcon_5 I started off with gliders which is pretty obvious because I live in the mountains. My first Glider was a Merlin from Graupner. Basic 2 Way thingey for Thermals. I still Glide a lot but the Model has grown to 4,5m ASW20. My first motorized Plane was an Enya Charter 40 but it died a fast death after my third or so Solo flight. After that came the ME 109 "Rote Dreizehn" from Jamara with a 10cc OS Engine. Seeing I got it for nothing i thought, "Hell, why not Try" and I guess we were born for each other. Wonderfull trainer with a scale look. Still flying her today. (after three years).

This is very cool, but I can't read a word of it. Also if I go the American e-bay site and search for "Gamebird" all that comes up is hunting crap.

Please let me know how I could find out the total price with shipping to the US, and get the description in English.
