Tail Wheel Support Bracket
 

I saw this video and thought a tail wheel would be nice to have on my about to arrive mini ultra stick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHY0OHWiNr4
He does a pretty good jobon the video but it appears that there is some type of bracket on the forward end of the tail that supports the wire as it comes up to the front of the tail and to towards the rear of the plane before he drilled a hole in the tail and made the 90° bend.
I have searched a few sites and I cannot seem to find a wire support bracket like the one shown.
Can anyone tell me what they are called or where to get one?
Or am I seeing something that is not what I think it is?

I guess I did not make myself clear. I already have the parts he described that I picked up at the LHSin the neighboring town.
He did not say anything about a support to hold the tail wheel assembly wireat the base of the rudder forward but it appears in the video that there is something there
And it makes sense that something should be there.
Look at the video again and look really close at the bottom of the rudder forward where he made that bend to go to the rear of the rudder before he made the bend up into the rudder.
Is there a bracket there he did not mention or not?

actually it looks like he added a small piece of fuel tubing to the rod. he never mentioned a bracket

That Dubro assembly does not come with anything for attaching to the bottom of the rudder. The way it is intended to be used is the bend at the top is made above the bottom of the rudder and the bend is inserted into a hole before hanging the rudder. There are may ways to avoid rehanging the rudder if you wish. The most simple is to make your bend butted up aginst the rudders bottom and cut one or two straps out of and aluminum soda can, epoxis the straps up aginst the bottom or simpy screw the straps.

Some folks make a big deal about letting the bend slide inside some sort of tube or sleeve but on that airplane that is definately overkill and not neccessary.

It appears that there's a tab (Great Planes Nylon Torque Bearing) that supports the wire to the bottom of the rudder. Instead of the bearing many at my club simply cut a strip of aluminum can about 1/4" wide by an 1"long and wrap it around the bottom of the rudder capturing the wire and then using a 2-56 bolt thru the 2 ends of the strip and the rudder. Encasing the wire in fuel tubing won't provide much (if any) cushoning as the vertical wire is inserted into the foot of the rudder. We just don't use the vertical bend and allow the aluminum strip to be the only method the secure the wire to the rudder. Now, a piece of fuel tubing will help isolate the rudder from abrubt hits on the tail wheel.

OK, I was aware that the Du-Bro #375 did not come with that unmentioned bracket as I have it as mentioned.
Even with my bigger screen the resolution was not quite clear enough for me to tell what is there.
I just was not sure if anything was really required mechanically for this install.

The arrow points to an "unkown"thingy. Could be the GPNylon Torque Bearing.

In the 2nd pic - the arrow points to a piece of aluminum wrapped and thru bolted. The wire does not bend upward into the bottom of the rudder.

Here is the setup on my Tiger2. I just notched the rudder and glued the wire into the notch that is why I have no collar below the bracket

It could very well be that bearing and it may be cut down or modified too.
I would think it would be helpful in this install too.
I will have to check with the local hobby shop the next time I get over there.

Another approach used successfully is to slip a piece of tubing over the horizontal wire and then adding 2 screws thru the tubing to attach to the rudder bottom. If the right-most screw is close to the end of the wire then the tailwheel is very "tight"to the movement of the rudder. If the right-most screw is farther away from the end of the wire then there is more "slop" or shock absorbtion between the tailwheel and the rudder. Works well on my 4Star60.

BTW - the first time Iset this up on my 4Star its ground control was TOTALLYOUTOFCONTROL - it was hilarious (to the peanut gallery). The screws were too far away from the wire end. Right rudder? Turns left. Left rudder?Turns right. Oops - best laid plans ...

Oh yea - just know that for every 1/4 oz of additional weight at the tail you'll need to offset this with about 1 oz. of additional weight at the firewall. Exact ratio depends on the distance between the CGand tail vs the CGand firewall.

OK and thanks again. I did not realize the ratio was so high but that's OK as I am adding it to the ARF as I put it all together. Never did like the nylon skid routine and this gives it better ground maneuvering too.
