Tailwheel bracket-and connecting rod-I am currently building my first large airplane-8'5" aeronca champ-I am not sure what to do about the tailwheel and bracket-I do not like the idea of the bracket attaching to fuse. and then the wire gripping at the bottom of the rudder due to not so perfect landings at time and rudder being damaged-any suggestions-would a freewheel type bracket work that keeps it center by springs and you steer by prop blast only on rudder-I have thought about a pull-pull system-but really just trying to keep it simple-any reply would be appreciated-thanks

several companies offer complete tail wheel setups that use small springs which attach to the rudder with a control horn . they work great, and take the stress off your servos.

You can also bend the wire from the tailwheel bracket so it runs just under the rudder. The slip a piece of fuel line over the wire and attach the other end of the fuel line to the bottem of the rudder with a screw.

I have taken a wheel collar, drilled and tapped the opposite side fromt he set screw for a second screw, Instead of short set screws; use two 3/4 inch long screws and then run 2 rubber bands back to the pull-pull control horn on the rudder. Simple spring loaded tailwheel steering. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img] (you can also use matched ball-point pen springs)
