Maiden Flight For Plane And Pilot! Video Inside!

I recenly purchased my first RC Plane, It is an E-Flight Apprentice 15E. I don't know anyone personally into R/C planes, and chose to try and train myself using Realflight 6. I trained 90% of the time using the "Nexstar EP" as it seemed to be the closest to my plane based on what i have read. Here is my maiden voyage:

I don't think you had enough obstacles in the way. Trees, fence, light poles. Good Job!~!!!!!

Thanks! I was was literally shaking with nervousness! This thing is really easy to land with enough distance and little to no wind. I pretty much just cut throttle and let it glide in, and added just a touch of up elevator just before touchdown. My brother got this on his cameraphone, and the video seems like it is sped up to me a little, the landing seemed much slower in person. Also, i was chopping grass with the prop, that was why i pulled back so hard on take off, The grass being as tall as it was didn't seem to affect the landing, I was assuming it would do an endo on touchdown!

I watched 10 seconds and the video stopped. That's already better than my first flight. Nice job. Video still loading. ;) Welcome to RCU.

Kudos for flying early ( or was it late? ) when no one is around.

However find a club to fly at before someone complains.

It was late, just before dark (It was dark almost 15 minutes later). There is also a soccer field down the street from my house that I have never once seen used for soccer (Probably because there is a much nicer field 3 blocks down that is fully lit). I am starting to look for a club now. Hoping not to have to rely on the Redmond, Wa. Marymoor site, as it is not that close to my house.

If that was your very first flight I think you did an excellent job. I thought you were going to hit the fence on landing. You got lucky there.

The only thing missing from your flying field was a herd of cows, cow patties, bales of hay and an old rusty truck sitting right in the center. I promise you there are 2 trees and at least one light pole with your name on it. I used to fly on a soccer field. It was good. I even got to where I flew under the goals. I never hit one but my buddy did.

I thought the field seemed pretty open, but even more space would have been a good idea for the first run. And the landing seemed a lot faster on video than in real life. I am thinking between the camera phone video, being converted and uploaded, the speed got somewhat altered. I never even considered hitting the fence to be an issue untill I watched the video after it was uploaded. I am so addicted...

Well I killed my plane on Saturday. I was 15 flight/landings in, and simply got over confident. I was flying inverted, and made the mistake of trying to elevate but instictively pulled back. Most was fixable, and I need about $20 in parts, no biggie, but I simply made the mistake of flying too low doing stuff I hadn't practiced enough. I also sold a project car today, and treated myself to a Spektrum DX8! Not mad about crashing, cheap enough to fix, and it "Put me in my place" to keep me from getting over confident, and making me appreciate the importance of following basic rules untill I have enough flight time to have better instinc.

Not to discourage you.... but the first of many to come. You sound like you have the right attitude though. As long as you are having fun, that's all that counts. Carry on!

Great Job!!  My first solo was with a GWS Slo Stik, and an old futaba 6 ch I bought at a swap meet, for less than $60.00. Now I have 10 airplanes, and buid some experimentals from fan-fold foam, and elmers foam.  My first brand new radio is a Turnigy 9x. great radio, great price!
