Antenna Placement?

I hear that it really doesn't matter where you put the antenna inside your NON-carbon-fiber fuselage, as long as you don't put it right next to the engine or the battery. But is there ANY advantage to mounting it to the side/bottom of plane, and/or if it sticks straight up or down or pointing fore or aft?

My Hitec Optima receivers only have one short antenna. But my small Minima Rx has TWO short antennas; should they be oriented parallel? 90 deg angle (if so, in the vertical or horizontal plane)? One pointing up, one down? One forward, one backward...etc.

Thanks!

I believe unless you have a main and satelite type receiver setup where the main and satelite antennas are best at 90 degress and apart from each other .... it doesn't matter

Futaba suggest that the 2 short 2.4 GHz antenna be opposite of each other as much as possible...ie 1 up 1 down, 1 fore 1 aft etc A couple of mine that isn't easy so 1 runs at an angle left the other at an angle right

RE: Antenna Placement?

Most all RC transmitter antenna are linearly polarized so the optimum is with the receiving antenna in the same orientation as the transmitter antenna. However, since the plane moves over all 360 degrees in flight if you do any manuvering at all it is impossible to maintain the optimum orientation. If you have two antennae, then try to keep them at 90 degrees to one another for best possible reception at all attitudes. Also, the higher frequencies such as 2.4GHz can be easily shadowed (any object between the transmitter and receiver antennae such as a motor or battery) by conductive objects so, if using two antennae, keep them separated as far apart physically as possible as well as 90 degrees to each other for maximum reception.

Rodney,

It seems you're referring to my flying style, not necessarily the others. :-)
