Airtronics RDS 8000 Radio

What is the report of the Airtronics RDS 8000 2.4 GHz radio. Iam thinking of buying this. Ihave selected this because a good flying buddy of mine has it and can therefore shorten my learning curve. Also I found a web site that includes 2 receivers and free shipping at the same price that all other sites want for 1 receiver. Istill fly trainers but hope to move up soon

Be a great first radio, I have one. I would like to get the sd10. Or I like my Hitec Eclipe and would like the aurora 9 My friend has it and loves it. He dumped Futaba for it,says its way easier to use than the futaba.

From http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php...receivers.html
The RDS8000 features a Trainer System that is compatible with Airtronics RD, RDS and VG series transmitters
You need this http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php...g-systems.html to connect the 'student' radio to the RDS8000. The manual should tell you about any setup that needs to be done in the transmitters.

As stated, they are fine radio systems. The price is right and is pretty much everything any one from beginners to at least Intermediate pilots would use without any problems. I have the older RD8000 as well as the RD6000 (six channel), both in 72 MHz and love them.... as long as I can remember to raise the TX antenna... [X(] :D

I've had mine for 4+ years and can recommend it. I, too, bought it with 2 RX, a great deal. Kind of boring, though, no exciting brownouts, binding lapses or failures of any kind - it just keeps on keeping on, as advertised.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

:D Ya gotta love it.

But, I also have a Spektrum DX6i and one of the first DX7's and love them too. I've never experienced any sort of a "brown out". Maybe that's because I don't have any binding servos, fly it with 6 volt packs, and don't fly it until the receiver batteries are almost dead. That's the winning combination.

I've really liked my RDS8000 too. The only two complaints I have is that there is no dual rates or exponential on the rudder for planes (but it does have expo for helis, WTH?!) and you can't set it to do dual rates all on one switch. Those are small annoyances easily fixed by spending double the money on a better radio, but for $200 I'm happy to live with it. On a matter of personal preference, I think the sticks aren't rough enough on top but Futaba aftermarket ones will fit so no biggie.

I love my RDS8000 and it was my first computer radio. The programming is really easy to use, it works and works and works. No issues with my radio at all. I agree that having expo on the rudder would be nice, but I've been flying the Sportsman pattern sequences with it and flying very competively as well, even with no expo on the rudder. I kinda like having the dual rates on seperate switches for the ailerons and elevator. I also have the SD6G radio as well, which is very similar with the RDS 8000 and it does have the expo on all three control surfaces. You won't go wrong with the RDS8000 radio, or even the SD-6G radio as well.

i have one also, along with a futaba 6ex, prefer the airtronics over the futaba, feels better in my hands and programing is easier

I own and regularly fly with two RDS8000 radio systems. I've been enjoying trouble-free flying with them for a number of seasons now. To buddy box the RDS8000, you can pick up any number of inexpensive VG, RD, or Vanguard series Airtronics transmitters from the RCU classifieds or your favorite auction site.

I too am a RDS guy. I have (2) of the original RD6000 from way way way back. They have never given a glitch or hiccup. I wanted more channels and the RDS8000 came and was in my hands the next sale at Hobby Shack. (people). Been flying with two RDS8000's. I have filled the memory of each and have never had a brown out, glitch, loss of signal, twitch, shimmy or shake out of it.

I say it is the easiest to program of any radio out there. Takes about 2 minutes and you can see how to do everything.

I have flown Airtronics exclusively since 1986 and had everything but the SD10. Recently, I purchased the Aurora 9. It allows you more programming options, waay cool.
