I was given a used DLE-55 gas engine. It was from a friend, from a friend and so on. no one knows anything about it. Coming out of the electronic ignition module is two wires opposite the spark plug wire. I'm sure one goes to the halls sensor, where does the other one go. It only has a the wire with no kind of connector on the end. Thanks

The two wires are for the hall sensor and a plug-in digital tachometer.

So If I am not using a tach, then I don't do anything with that wire? also where can i get the prop bolt and front prop washer.

Check the tower hobbies site for DLE parts.
The tachometer lead will just be left alone if not using a tach. |

Yup. RCExtremePower.net has plug in tach's that you can mount on your dash or inside your plane or whatever.
Tower, Troy Built Models, Valley View RC, and or Chief Aircraft probably have parts for the engine. |

The tach lead is a third wire, Earlier units did not have a tach lead. One of the two goes to the hall sensor, the other is the battery lead. There needs to be some power energizing the ignition. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

I know on my other gas engine I shut it down with a servo on the choke

You can do that too, but you still need a way to shut the power off to the ignition module.

OK, I do have external switches for both the ignition and the flight battery. I use 4.8v on the ignition and 6v on the flight battery. So I have two switches

Right! Put one switch by the Rx and one by the ignition to keep some separation. It is also easier to reach the ign. sw. from the front. Buy the switches with the charge jack built in. About $15 each. Two reasons: one for convenience and two because they are better switches. Don't buy the Chinese switch with the LED on it. "Hao Ya" or something like that. Sold by HK I think. I took one apart, and there is very little surface area for the mating surfaces of the switch.

That is the style of switches that I use on all of my planes. makes it alot easier to charge and turn on and off. Now all I need to do is get the propeller flange and socket head screws. See if that puppy will run. If it does then I will get the NGK cm6 plug for it.

Download the manual for ANY of the DLE engines. Everything is explained right there in detail. The ignition modules are the same for most of the engines. |

I do have another question. Re: the wire coming out of the ignition module that had no end on it. can I use a servo extension wire with the proper end on it and just splice it in? The servo extension wire is not as heavy as the wire coming from the module.

I find with gas engines I like to have 2 ways of shutting them down. One by radio and directly on the plane itself. I will usually have a radio controlled switch that cuts the ignition and then a manual switch that cuts power to the ignition module. I like doing it that way instead of using the choke because I know for certain that the engine is going to die immediately when I chop the power to the ignition module. <div>

Gene, you have th old style ignition with only the two wires from what I can see. The new ignition has the plug wire plus three. I'm sure by now you have noticed that. I set mine up like Ken, a regular JR switch on the outside of the plane plus a second way to kill the engine with the radio. The optical kill switch is the new kid on the block and all the rage but I have done it with a servo activated kill switch or just a choke servo, they all work but the optical is also the easy way. By the way, the DLE 55 is really an outstanding engine.

I will agree with Gray Beard - the DLE is a great engine! I have one mounted in my 1/4 scale Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee from The World Models (review coming soon...) and the DLE pulls the Pawnee around very nicely! All up weight came in at about 21 pounds, and I'm using a Falcon 22x8 beechwood propeller. It's a very nice combination of prop, engine, and airframe!

What is the size that I need to drill the center hole on the propeller? Can't seem to locate it anyplace. I will be ordering the propeller drill jig today.
