Spectrum receivers
 

Iam posting for a buddy. He just bought a spectrum DX6i radio. I am told that you can get receivers called "orange receivers" that are compatible with this radio. They are quite inexpensive. When researching I find them on Hobby King and ebay. Thay say they are compatible with and Spectrum that is DSMX or DSM2. Does anyone know if these will work with the above mentioned radio?
The listed receiver is AR6210 for that radio

Yes they do. I have a Spektrum DX8, and I only use Spektrum receivers. Other people will weigh in. Alot of them use the orange on park flyers and the more inexpensive aircraft.

I personally wouldn't use them on anything that costs more than the reciever but yes they will work with the DX6i which is DSM2

Personally, I think there's a reason they are made orange.

In aviation, they call the FDR and CVR a "black box" but in reality they are painted orange so they are easier to see and find in the event of a crash. Coincidence? Hummmm.........

THey work great but a bunch of DX6 users claim to have a problem with one specific Orang RX. I would research it on hobbyking forums or on the reviews on hobbyking. The OranRx receivers work great and at the club I was at they recommend them. Also you need to be careful. Some orange Rx modules are for park fliers but it doesnt state it so the range is not that great. I know some have accidentally put them on a glider and then bam lost signal a few hundred feet out.

I have a couple of them. One on an eFlite profile CAP232 and the other in a Mini Ultra Stik.

These planes are both on the small side (400-450 brushless motors) and Ive never had an issue with using the Orange RX in either.

i would not use them in anything larger or more expensive. Although there is a guy at our field that uses them exclusively. Even on his giant Rascal on 10s packs. Hes not had any issues that I know of. Although he did have a couple of crashes that werent determined exactly what happened. So maybe it was the RX.

Either way...I wouldnt use them on anything larger than say a .25 size plane. Just for the "piece of mind". But they are a bargain!

I use the Orange RX on a number of my planes, I always use a satellite RX with them.  I have one in a 72" gasoline powered plane and it works fine.

go to target hobby and get a 6 channel spektrum with satellite for 16.00

I've tried, tested and used ALL of the Orange RX's.

Here is the rundown... with BOTH Spectrum and JR TX's.

The Orange RX's are DSM2 only ( unless they state DSM ), but not DSMX.

Your DSMX TX will work with them in DSM2 mode however.

The 4 channel Micro Park Flyer RX - Fantastic.... tested to well over 1000' LOS, never a glitch or hiccup

The 4 channel full range RX - Fantastic.... I've flown glow engine planes out to their limits.

The 6 channel full range RX - Lousy - DO NOT BUY........ This RX uses EXACTLY the same circuit board utilized by other "no-name" clone RX's with black/silver shrink wrap labels.

Momentary 2 - 3 second reception losses in spite of more than adecuate power, reproducable on three different units. Adding the Satellite does NOT improve matters.

The "no-name" clones have done exactly the same thing in testing. I think this is an uncorrected firmware issue.

The 7 channel full range RX - Fantastic.... I've used this on a couple gassers w/o problems. The satellite has not proven to be necessary

The 9 channel full range RX - My Favorite... Supports JR/Spectrum advanced features and the logger.

What is the difference between DSM2 and DSMX? Am Ilimited as to which receivers I can use with DSMX? (Spektrum DX8)

DSMX supports dual frequency hopping and telemetry support.

DSM2 uses two broadband frequency ranges that are selected as the unit starts up and discovers what is in use.

DSMX also provides DSM and DSM2 backwards compatibility.

So you can use any of the DSM/DSM2 Orange receivers as well as any of the 2.4ghz DSM/DSM2 or DSMX Spectrum or JR receivers.

You have quite a bit of flexiility with your TX.

I don't think so, but who knows. comes in a spektrum package and has the spektrum logo on the rx. and sure looks like the original spektrum that I have. I have about 10 of these and nary a problem with any of them.

yes they will work............however beware of the orange rx's. i had one in a escapade and two flights later it went down. i had no radio problem at all, or after that. it was definitly the orange rx. this was the six channel . i will never use anything but a spectrum rx again. don't learn the hard way. if it was just the rx lost no big deal, but what about everythging else ? i would use them in a park flyer only. something foam and cheap. even then you have a motor ,battery and esc plus servos that could get ruined. not worth it........HAPPY LANDINGS..........RON. p.s because of that i will not buy anything from hobby king again ever.

The Orange Rx's will NOT work with the Airtronics RDS8000, different Spread Spectrum Technologies!!

Yup I hope you read my message.

Too bad you've done that... I've tested the others extensively and they have proven time and again to be problem free.

The six channel one, no, it is indeed unreliable and I would never recommend it due to the firmware problem.

The others are great though.

Even the REAL Spectrums encountered similiar problems with some of their models...

So don't write off all similiar models based upon one bad one... going by that methodology you would have to swear off all Spectrums and Futabas too!

Yeap sorry... I was thinking about the shorter range Parkflyer receivers that are actually DSM2 not DSM1.

To restate it correctly... the DSMX works with the DSM2 Parkflyer RX's but not the DSM1 RX's.

The picture on the web site looks like a REAL Spektrum, so it may not represent what you are actually getting.

It's too blatent. I'll bet it's the real thing... if so how so cheap????
