Hanging for storage wing attached advise
 

I need to get my plane off the work stand. I have the room to hang it from the shop ceiling. (small block and tackle already rigged) I would like to hang with wing attached to get it out of harms way too.

Do you hang them 1) by the nose (prop adapter looks like an option); 2) upside down by the landing gear (may look funny but attachment seems OK; 3) rig a harness form 1" soft webbing and suspend from wings near fuse (would look good but does it screw up the wing)

Plane is a UStik 120 and weighs about 13# +/-.

I've hung mine by the wings without trouble. A loop of twine slipped over the wings about half way out each side.

These are simply bungee cords hanging from hooks. Have had no problem with the plane wanting to roll without my control input :D .

they do take up the room. I was not sure of long term affect of the straps possibly distorting the wing/ or fuse. Boats somewhat change shape out of water and do not know squat about planes distorting and knew I would get a variety of solutions.
Truly one of the nice things about this hobby is everyone's sharing of experiences, good and bad!

Why not try 2 timber beams hung from the ceiling, running parallel to each other about 40 inches apart. Then seperate the wings from the fuselage. Pop the fuselage over the top of the 2 beams (front half over 1 and back side over the other) and then stack the wings along side?

I use two hooks screwed into the rafter, 2 - 1/2 to 1" PVC pipes cut to the proper length, 2- small nylon ropes cut to the proper length, run through the pipe and make a loop end on each end of the ropes. I then loop both eyes of each rope I just made, on the hooks. I then use pipe insulation for cushion. Depending on the plane you can either run the pipe rods under the wings close the fuse or under each end of the fuse. The way you hang or un-hang is simply removing only one end of the loop from the hook.

Nothing on file, I drew this one up just for you!

I use a few systems. This is the one in the basement. It's just two 2x2's that I drilled to install several 3/8" dowels at an angle. It's great for holding wings, and it can even hold a few fuselages.

MinnFlyer: those plastic coat hangars would either straighten or get break in my shop which recently has been over 100 F most afternoons. Now if I could convince wife we need a plane hanging in the A/C'd Bedroom......

We have a Super Sportster hanging in the living room from a couple of hooks that were intended for a lamp!!!! I guess that is better than the coffee table where it was parked for a while!!!!!

Minn's "hangers" are precisely what I do, but with twine. Cheap but effective.

As to distorting the wings, they're designed to take fairly high "G" loads, so hanging under just their own weight shouldn't matter much. I have a couple that hung unused for two to three years and they don't seem to have suffered damage.
