right engine
I just bought a sonic 500 to play with i want to put a evolution 36 on it .I know that this plane is a sports/racer but i just want a low wing stick what i was wondering is this engine going to be to small for this plane the plane has 51 inch wings and 48 inchs long. let me know what you think.Oh I am a beginner.I fly a GP 40 stick with a 46ax on it and i thought it would be fun to fly a low wing.

RE: right engine
G'day
The Sonic was originally designed as a 25 size low wing trainer. Then people put larger engines in them and went racing. Your 36 should be fine and will fly it perfectly well. The Great Planes Viper is another model that was built as a 25 size advanced trainer but is now mostly used for pylon racing. As a result, its asking price is ridiculous here in Australia as pylon racers often have short lives and have to be replaced regularly. Mike in Oz |

RE: right engine
Hi!
Your .36 engine will be just fine for sport flying! But...Why not put in a .40 engine and do some pylonracing? You cannot have more fun with your pants on!;) I would use a Kyosho GX .40 or a TT SE .40 as those are the most powerful .40 sport engines on the market (Webra GT.40 is also among those but is no longer available). Use 10x6 RAM or Graupner Cam-prop (up-swept tips) as those are the best for a .40 engine in a Q-500 racer for sport flying and a Nova Rossi 4 or Merlin glowplug! 9x6 or 9x7 APC props are also good if you intend to race (in the US). |
