You only need one battery. The speed controller then regulates the power to the receiver and servos. But a MicroJet is NOT a good model for a complete beginner, it's too fast and tricky to fly unless you have a very good instructor to help you.

Stating that your a complete beginner one must assume that you have never flown any r/c planes before. If that is the case, then there is no better way to begin than finding a good quality trainer and getting plenty of instruction at your local flying field and hobby shop. I have seen far too many mishaps from those who have tried to take too large of a step or trying to solo on their own. Ask plenty of questions and by all means have a qualified veteran check out the plane before it's maiden flight. Good luck and good flying!

You're getting good advice here, Ben. If you're looking to go the glow-powered route, definitely get a 40-sized trainer and an instructor. Seek out some local clubs and visit them before you buy anything. If you're more interested in taking the electric route, take a look at the GWS "E-Starter" plane.....I would still get an instructor, preferably somebody that flies and knows about electrics. The gear and battery choices can be very confusing with electrics.....also remember to ask lots of questions on here......the only stupid question is one that you ask! :) Once you decide on glow or electric come back and ask more opinions!

I'm thinking that glowplug meant, the only stupid questions are the ones you DON'T ask!
