Spinner question
Anyone have any experience with the great planes nylon spinners with the aluminum baseplates? I shredded the heck out of my nylon spinner baseplate when trying to start it at home after flying to get the rest of the fuel out of the engine. ( I know should have done that at the field ). It was on very tight, but when I kept trying to start it with the electric starter, it would slip on the greasy slippery spinner, then eventually spin the prop, nut and spinner right off the engine.
I then noticed that the plastic ridges on the baseplate of the spinner were worn right off. I'm thinking with the aluminum baseplate this wouldn't happen. Also considering a Spinner nut, but don't want to add to much weight to the nose. Thanks for any help. Tim |
Spinner question
I just use the aluminum spinner nuts, lots less hassle and no more weight than a plastic spinner.

Spinner question
I prefer spinner nuts for my non scale aircraft far more functional, better looking and never an ugly black ring.

Spinner question
I agree with the spinner nut suggestions.....and they come in pretty colors too! :D
Make sure you don't get the brass ones.....those are heavy....the aluminum ones are very light. |
Spinner question
Tim I have an extra prop nut for you if you want it, Had it on my ME 109 but needed a brass one because it was tail heavy so I don't need it any more (Helps that I work in a machine shop :D I make them myself for free :D ) I'll bring it with me this weekend.

Spinner question
I use the C.B.A/Tatone plastic spinners with aluminum backplates. Haven't had a failure (or loose spinner) yet.
I also use the white silicone insert for my Sullivan electric starter. It is softer, seems to grip better and doesn't mar the plastic. |
