Moving On!
Hey all,
Just wandering when I can be officially able to move onto a low wing design? What model number? I am getting an LT-40 as a trainer, a SIG 1/5 J-3 Piper Cub as #2 possibly and then maybe I'll try a few cheap spads. Thanks all:) |
RE: Moving On!
IMO once you get confortable flying, landing, taking off, dead stick landings, some basic acrobatics such as rolls, loops and such. once you feel VERY confortable doing that, a low wing wont be a hassle (as long as you don choose a CAP or some very snappy plane).

RE: Moving On!
Get comfortable with you trainer and be able to handle it in most situations. After that a low wing is fair game, but like I Got Hit said I wouldn't recommend a CAP, Extra...etc type plane as a first low/mid wing. YOu also said something about trying some SPADS. There are some great low wing SPAD designs that are very sturdy and cheap. Check out the SPAD forum for some suggestions.

RE: Moving On!
That's some good advice. Btw, the cub can actually be harder to take off and land than many of the sport low-wingers. It should be really easy to fly once airborne though.

RE: Moving On!
Don't rush...enjoy learning to fly...
btw- I would not recommend the cub for your 2nd plane, those planes are a handful on takeoff (for those that are not experienced enough). Not that its hard, you just have to know what you are doing. |
RE: Moving On!
And make sure you learn how to use the rudder before you even bother trying to fly a Cub.
You'll need it for turns, but it's REQUIRED for taking off. Dennis- |
RE: Moving On!
Right on with "do not rush, enjoy your trainer" advise!
And DBCherry is on the money again! When you start use and "feel" rudder – it is totally new world!!! Have good flying!!! |
