Tip for posting pictures here.

I use the photo sharing site called "PhotoBucket". It's free, works great, the files are stored elsewhere not clogging the servers here, and are big. Not those little thumbnails.

1: Sign up.
2: take your pictures.
3: I re size to 1080 on the longest side, I haven't tried other sizes so I don't know what other sizes work.
4: Upload your pictures to PhotoBucket.
5: Double click on the picture you want to post.
6: Click the "Direct Link" to the right of your picture where it shows the HTTP thingy.
7: Come back here, look above to where it say's "Image" and click on that.
8: Youll see something like [img][/img].
9: Click between the center brackets then right click.
10: Your file should of uploaded between those brackets.
11: Then just hit ok.

Like this.

Once you click OK to upload how long does it take and how many photos can you upload at one time. Right now all I can do, MAX, is three photos and that takes about 4 minutes waiting for them to load up before you can type anything. If I try to download 4 photos it times out or error 500s me. You can't do a very good build thread like that.

One at a time from PB to the [img][/img] thing. Just click the next pic like I outlined and do the [img][/img] thing again and carry on!

I'm not a computer guy but from what I understand being a regular on many other forums, and hope I'm correct, when you download pics to a forum directly, it adds the total file megabites or whatever to the host's server possibly filling up the memory or what ever and slowing the site down. I think that's when the error codes show up. To be honest, I'm a computer idiot and could be way off. But when I got into photography I learned this and now use this method exclusively on ALL sites! Plus, thumbnails suck. [:'(]

More examples.

Uploaded instantly with no problems. And looks a heck of a lot better than those thumbnails. And you don't have to click on them, then click them back out, then go the next pic, click...

Gary, i've used photobucket on here for the last few years, but i dont think it's very well recieved on here for some reason.

It's great for doing builds as after the pictures are uploaded to photobucket you can jump back and forth to upload pictures on here as fast as your PC can turn the page.

The other good thing is you can add text to each picture as it appears in your post as opposed to a collection of images at the bottom.

That's much better John. Once I got used the using PB I use it on all the sites I post on. I wouldn't know why it wouldn't be well received here. Most admin's I know prefer using something like PB or SmugBug. Some sites have limits 800 on the longest side and I have no problem posting 1080. And besides just being bigger, your pics have more clarity and detail especially when doing a build thread or when asking about something small like carb linkage set ups.

Also, in case your hard drive crashes, you don't lose your pics because they are stored on another drive. Ill find something with some detail for an example.

I've been told to pass this along:

The RCU photo uploader with auto resize SEEMS to be working just now. I don't know for sure because I've never used it myself, but it might be worth a try.

You would think after all this time RCU would have fixed there problem.

They fixed it awhile back.

Then it got broke again, and they fixed it again. And RCU got sold to a company that plans to put the forums into an up to date application in use all over the internet. Someday....

From what I've heard, "RCU" really doesn't care which way pictures are done in member's posts. The only real complaints I've heard were from members who complained when the bucket pictures were so large they blew the text in the thread off the monitor.

As for how long RCU takes uploading, how long does the buckets take? You spend that here or there, right? It's kewl if they save you some time.

If any of you are familiar with the Warbird forum, you might have noticed a couple of bucket users over there who pour buckets of pictures into each post. Trust me, posts with a huge number of big pictures in them can waste your evening hours. Getting to the next post in the thread really can waste your free time. One thing they prove is that RCU really isn't against that either. Bottom line is do what you prefer, but consider the other members.

The following took 13 seconds. I used the 2nd option, not the beta.

Two seconds not counting the time to go to PB to get the file. And I never get an error message.

I don't know, Gene. I use the normal "upload" feature and none of the fancy stuff. I was replying to a "ticket" that was assigned to me but written by another member that stated that the RCU......

Well, you read the post, so I won't elaborate. I don't know what prompted this particular thread, but here it is and off we go!!!

BTW, I changed the way my previous post was presented so that it doesn't look like it was my idea. Since I post pictures via the old fashioned method.. ;), I don't know what that was or is all about,

Later.

I apologize if I did something wrong here, but I don't understand. I get a sense that I broke some taboo or something. I prefer the larger pics and thought I could help others that do too. I'm getting a negative vibe and I don't get it.

Gary, the pics you posted sure work for me. I have seen some pictures that I really would have liked a closer look. Just they don't open up for me.

Sorry you feel vibes like that.

As said by a couple of us mods...... it's ok. You're good. Everyone can post from a bucket or the RCU tools. They're all good. You have helped others do it from buckets. We've offered the same help for using the tools. We're both good. Good vibrations.... all around.

What rock is referring to are the photos we once in a while get, it has happened to me too. These come out so huge they take up the complete screen and you have to scroll around to see them and find the text. I haven't seen it is quite a while. I just posted a photo and it took 60 seconds for one and it takes 3 to 4 minutes to post 3 photos. If I try to post 4 photos I get an error 500. Three photos is just fine but once in a while on a build thread three doesn't quite show it all. At one time on RCU a photo only took seconds to post and you could do a gang of them if you wanted. Over the years the RCU site has had it's ups and downs. Right now it seems to only be photos. Not a big deal most the time.

You did not do anything wrong, Gary. I simply followed up on a ticket that was written by someone else that suggested the RCU photo uploader. I don't quite understand why that individual didn't just put it here rather than write a ticket up on it, but, no, you did not do anything wrong.. no taboo's broken, nothing at all negative. In fact, the pictures are quite nice. It was nice to see that Gray Beard does actually HAVE a gray beard!!! :D

I get it. Some guys prefer to add a lot of verbiage during their builds and like the thumbnails better. As slow as I type I prefer to let the pics do the talking. :)

Thanks guys and Merry Christmas.

RE: Tip for posting pictures here.

It's only three weeks old and I only put it back on so the lip isn't lonely.
I have been asked to do things like showing how to cover with only one sheet so the hinge gaps are covered or how to make covering fillets before putting on the main covering. Sometimes things like that require more photos. I just got around it by posting three at a time then doing another post. I always thought it was my new camera and still do. If I post some of my older photos from when I had a cheaper camera they come right up and I can post a bunch of them. I have had puter savvy friends tell me it isn't the pixel size but I still wonder.
I was a photo major for four years, long before digital and knew my equipment through and through but I can't figure out all the stuff I have in my new camera. I like it, I just can't figure it all out. I have to read the instructions, then do something new but by the time I want to do the same thing again I have forgotten how to do it and have to start over.
Gary, your camera sure takes a nice sharp image, very crisp and full tone.
