I keep hearing people say that the OS .46 LA's are low-power and hard to break in. Is this true?

I don't know about breaking one in, but as for the power issue you have heard correctly. The LA series is weak, but if you do not need much speed, torque, or feel the urge to fly 3D, then it is a good affordable choice. The FX series by OS are a lot more powerful than the LA series, but the only downside is that they are more expensive. The FX series is also easy to break in, or at least in my experience they have been.

The LA series are a under powered compared to others in the same class but are generaly a good engine BUT they are way over priced for what you get, better value for youe $ are the Thunder Tiger engines, especialy the TT42 and TT46

LA46 is not a bad engine by any means. It has a bit more power than the 40, but not really worth the extra dollars. For the money you would have a better off getting a BB engine. I do not think the LA 46 has a competitor in its class. Help me out guys. There may be other bushed .46 but I cant think of any at the moment. TT .42 is close, but usually compared to the LA .40. Most others are BB engines.

Magnum and Thunder Tiger both made bushed .40 and .46class engines, but I'm pretty sure they both stopped making them, concentrating on the BB class engines instead. I think Norvel is now making a bushed .40, and if it's true to Norvel's bushed .25 engines, it will out rev most BB .40s. (Norvel uses some unique metal alloys in their engines that result in very high RPM bushed engines). But other than Norvel and OS, I don't think anyone is making bushed .40 engines that you are likely to run in to.
