Wing Covers

I'vd been seaching the threads on building wing covers for my airplanes but cannot find any. Does anyone know what material that would be good in building wing covers?

Thanks,

One of the 'cheaper' methods is to purchase some "Moving Blankets" from Harbor Freight! Have some needle and thread nearby and you will be good to go.

Right after summer those sliver window sun shades come up on sale. I have bought the big ones used for van windows and just made them from that. I have also gone to Harbor freight and bought the shipping blankets like movers use and had wing bags made up with them. There is a sewing club in my area so I can get them made up pretty cheap. I just use duct tape when I make them from window sun shades.

I made mine from small bubble bubble wrap and 2 inch wide UV resistant greenhouse tape.

Just a few minutes to produce a set and cheap as chips.

Which was important as I am somewhat Scottish.

A slightly thicker French Fry, as in Fish and Chips.

My wife made some nice wing bags for me 10 yrs ago using some old sleeping bags as material. We weren't camping anymore so the bags were recycled into 8 assorted size and style wing bags. Some are open only on one end to slide the wing down into, some open completely up with velcro down the side to close them, and some are 2 piece bags for wings that have wing mounted landing gear. They are all still in use as they have held up well. The thick quilted type material gives good protection to the wings, just clean off the post flight oil residue before sliding the wing in the bag for the trip home or you will have to throw them into the washing machine more often. Use what to got and be creative. I also reuse the clear plastic bags the the ARF wings came in for dust and dirt protection while they are stored in my shop. Keeps them clean and ready for the next flight.
