Sig rascal trainer question
I like the Sig rascal a lot its only a 49"wingspan. Can I get a glow engine .40 for same size plane with ailerons (4 ch). I am a top gun with a 3ch aerobird:)
I dont like the LT 40, its too big. I wanna fly smaller trainer and go to advanced small 4ch planes with about 45" max wingspan. |

For a .40 trainer 45" wingspan is really small. The smallest im aware of is the tower 40 trainer which is 55". Ive heard good things about this one. If you want to go smaller youll probably have to go with a .25 engine which then you can get a numerous airplaen wiht small wingspans. Or if you want you can go eletric. I can understand why you would want a smaller airplane then the big LT-40 but they do fly alot better and are alot easier to see and train on. You can get really good 60" trainers that will do the job as well. Most .40 size trainers will have airelons or give you the option of putting them in.

The 49" WS Rascal is designed for a .049 to .07 glow fuel motor. A .40 sized motor in it would be grossly overpowered. However I don't find anything wrong with using the Rascal as a trainer with the proper sized engine. I've been training my brother-in-law on a 40 sized Rascal and we've been having a ball. If you want, you could use a .40LA bushing motor in a SIG LT-25 great 4 channel trainer. It's wing span is 63" John |

John, Thanks! You said u've been training your brother-in-law on a 40 sized Rascal doe sthat mean its a .049 glow fuel engine? Is the terminology people use like: 40 size rascal, 55 size plane etc mean the Engine capacity in cu or cc?
Does the rascal 49" WS have ailerons? I want my trainer to have ailerons 4ch... Thnaks |

The number refers to the engine's approximate displacement in cubic inches. A "40" sized plane would use a 0.40 cubic inch engine, a "60" would use a 0.60 cubic inch engine, etc. The SIG Rascal "40" sized plane has a 72.5" wingspan. See...

Jim is absolutely correct. If you are looking for small size planes try an electric at http://www.mountainmodels.com/dandysport.php the Dandy is a good 4 channel trainer. However please listen. A bigger airplane acts slower on the controls and is usually easier for a beginner to handle. That is why most people recommend a larger trainer. John |

Looks like I am quite sure what trainer I want. The 49" WS Rascal with a .049 to .07 glow fuel engine or a 70" ws 40 size rascal with a .40 or higher glow engine. Since I personally like smaller planes the .049 size rascal is my favorite, but Does this come as an ARF?...since at tower I only saw 40 size as ARF:(
Comparing .049 size rascal with the .40 rascal , which will be a better trainer with respect to: controls, acrobatics (or is it aerobatics -whats the diffference??), flying time, noise, overall cost, hand launching ability, Take offs and landings in grass, safe landings every time,does 049size have ailerons? and Importantly min AIR SPEED to stay airborne in level flt? I am gonna decide on the arf plane 1st , then worry about the radio. If any of you could answer these I 'd apperciate it...Thanks! |
