Hinging with covering

Just a trick I thought I should show in the beginners forum. Way back in the olden days we didn't have the type of hinges we do today so we used silk span or nylon to hinge the control surfaces. Today when I have a light weight little plane like this 1/2A kit that used wood too thin to drill or cut into I just revert back to my youth and use the covering itself to attach/hinge the control surfaces. It comes out strong and light weight and will never break or pull out.
I just iron on a strip of covering to the control surface the attach/iron it onto the stab or trailing edge of the other surface. You want to have the control surface bent to the deflection. Then just do the same thing to the other side. After the plane is covered the surfaces are as tight as anything else you can use. We even did this to some race planes.
In my case the top of the plane will be yellow and the bottom red. I'm using microlite film and you can see through it so you just need to think ahead a little bit. This is a good way to hinge any light weight planes.;)
