How do you remove cup on front of starter?
 

I am installing a finer edge battery adapter on my Sullivan starter and ran into a problem. I have to reverse the main bolts that go through the starter but in order to do that i have to remove the aluminum cup on the front of the starter. i removed the nut inside the cup, but the cup still wont come off. I tried a gear puller on the cup but that didn't work. Is it screwed on? If so how do i get it off. How do i hold the shaft to break it loose?

The cup is screwed on. What has worked for me in the past was to grab ahold of the cup with a rag, reverse the polarity to the battery and give it a few bumps. Most of the time it spins right off.

I wonder if the threads are reversed? you might try it both ways.
