Vintage sterling ringmaster jr

Hye guys i was cleaning up my grandmothers attic and found this old plane, box and instructions, is there anyone that can tell me about it, rarity, value? etc .. thanks http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1930184

The ring master was one of the most popular U-Control models of the 50s and 60s. Most of us had one as our second plane in my area. It used about a .15 to a .19 engine. One new in the box/kit would have some collector value but there are plans still available so anyone wanting one can still build the plane, there isn't a lot to them. To find an original is rare these days but they don't have a lot of value. Outstanding little stunt plane though and brings back a lot of memories. At one of the RC swap meets you could get a couple bucks out of it but used or broken planes don't bring in a lot of money.

For lots of help and talk, try these: http://www.stunthanger.com/smf/ This is where CL really comes into being. You will find that Ringmaster is spoken there very well. http://brodak.com/ A commercial forum but the owner here is the best - Tied of the best - as Stunt Hanger is also a real helper to all CL not just stunt. Both are far beyond 99.9% of the forums. Brodak and Storic keep CL well and excellent. It is very easy to produce a replica of the Ringmaster. I have one with an old early-on Fox 35. Great as long as nitro is LESS than 8% and oil is 27% or better with at least 60% castor oil. They will fly with a normal .19 but .25-35 is better, IMO. I also have one with a ST .29 using 3rd line. Flies very well. Ringmaster, sport engine, .19 to .35, and a 9-5/6 or 10-4 (19-.25) 10-6 or 11-4 prop (29.-.35) and low nitro high oil fuel makes for a fun day at the circles. |

Page 13 of Brodak Kits list: Ringmaster S-1 (the original) sku clp-82 @ $87.99. JR. Ringmaster sku clp-83 and the 1/2A Baby Ringmaster sku# clp-84, also well over-priced for me. $10 of balsa and a tad of ply and I can make a RM S-1 in a couple nights. So shock me! Edited to add: There was a "Ringmaster" CL full body airplane back in the mid-late '40s. I do not remember who and I am too lazy to research it. The Sterling RM 42"was flying before I graduatedfrom High School in 1954. Kit was a whopping $2.95, no fluids. The Jr. came out sometime then. I never was interested as I was more into real stunt and scale then, along with some FF. 9 months after H-S I qualified for USAF Avn Cadets. Things did change a bit for a few years. |

Lots of real history in those 1945 -1950 days. Ray Arden did make a new world with his glow-plug like this new world of the electric model motor and the Lithium battery. |
