Sounds like you are on the right track to learn how to fly...
I would get the basic, because when you do end up getting a plane it may come with a radio or may have a spectrum reciever, ect..

Good morning drussell and welcome to the forum as well as the passion.

I would suggest the full package as the transmitter that comes with it will also serve with something like thrirty anylink ready packages (airplanes) from tower hobbies or many local hobby shops.

agree with John... I've got the 'light' version and frankly don't like it a bit...
no programing options whatsoever regarding the transmitter, the airplanes, etc...

Check on ebay and the classifieds here. Lots of sims available to learn on and most will hook up to your transmitter once you get one. I use an old G2 and it works fine for learning on and you don't need a real high powered computer to run it on.

I was given the basic a few years ago, and then upgraded to the full version because of the features. You can't customize your airplanes in basic, you can't do any of the online stuff (at least not in version 5 you couldn't), you don't get the training programs, and you don't get nearly as many planes. If you are going to spend money on Real Fight, go ahead and get the full version.

I'd get the full version with the (TTX 600) transmitter, OR get phoenix with the Spektrum DX-6 Trans.
(if you're tastes for airplanes go more toward Futaba / Hobbico / TX-Ready airplanes, the TTX transmitter works with them. if you're more a Spektrum / Horizon / BNF airplane kinda guy, the DX-s works with them.)

If you have an instructor he may have one to loan you while your learning to fly. When I was still instructing I loaned mine to the new students so they could practice what they were learning at home. I didn't like to see a student buy something until after they soloed and had an idea of all the cool things you could buy or if they decided RC flying wasn't for them.
