Help with F-14 jet electronics problem

I am new to all this, and my son I are having a blast at it. I recently bought a new art-tech f-14 jet ducted fan r/c airplane and it worked fine first couple of flights. But now as soon as you plug in the battery everything goes haywire...I mean everything moves on its own. both Ailerons both elevators and the rudder front wheel all just start moving but the twin engines don't run. When the controller is turned on it has no effect on anything. The only thing that works is to unplug the battery.

Anyone seen this happen before?

Any help would be appreciated
Don

ummm... an F-14 EDF... this is your first airplane and you managed to get it back on the ground in one piece?

you're likely seeing the result of cheap / poor electronics or basic RC airplane 101 stuff.. :)

questions:
what brand / model number Transmitter and receiver are you using?
and are you turning the transmitter on FIRST, then connecting the battery in the airplane?

(Welcome to the addiction !)

Always turn on the transmitter before hooking up battery

No not first plane.. lol
the model of the receiver is E-Fly ER61 2.4 GHz 6 channel
I have did both several times with turning the transmitter on first and after i connect the battery.

Sounds like the receiver, or transmitter has failed.

as an FYI, you do always (unless you're in the process of binding / linking) want there to be a signal for the receiver to receive. ;)
(TX ON, then connect flight battery, on shutdown, first unplug flight battery then turn off the TX.)
