New plane

Just finished a Sig LT-25 I have been working on for about three weeks. What a nice kit to work with. Power is a Magnum 25 and I am really impressed with how smooth running it is. Its like a little sewing machine. Easy to hand start too. It started on the third flip of the prop and will already idle down so slow you can see the prop ticking over. Hopefully I will get to fly it this weekend. I am not a begginer and don't need a trainer I just like to relax every once in a while and watch a plane just cruise around the sky.

Excellent Ratshooter you have built a beautiful ship, all of the Kadet series have been among my favorites:cool:

Thanks John. I have had 3 senioritas and one senior in the past. Each one was a flying carpet. I like slow flying planes you don't have to be constantly correcting or turning around because you have flown to the limits of yor vision. I really like to sit on the tail gate of my truck with the plane trimmed to fly big circles while the radio is sitting beside me and I only have to bump a stick ever so often to correct the flight path. Sorta like a controled free flight.

I have high hopes for this plane. I built it as light as possble but it still came out at 5 pounds with a 16oz wingloading. But the info on the box is incorrect. To have a 12oz wingloading the plane would have to weigh about 3.5 pounds. Thats lighter than the listed lowest weight for the plane. I think they fudged a little. Oh well, the proof is in the flying.

I will be looking for to hearing of your successful maiden which I am sure will be fine and heck don,t stress about the weight. I seriously doubt any kit manufacturer has ever been real honest on kit boxes:D

I have a Seniorita also that serves as a quick change artist changing from a conventional twin to an aero towed glider after popping the engines off with two 1/4 20's

I believe your ship would make a fine float plane even with the 25 if done right.

Well I maidened the LT-25 today. I used a Magnum 25 on it and it was plenty of power even though its not all the way broke in yet. The plane wanted the climb and needed some right trim. After a couple of tweaks on the radio I was in business. I made two long flights. The wind was pretty strong but down the runway. With the wind you could land at what would be a normal walking speed.

One of my favorite things to do with the Senioritas I use to own was to set a little up trim, set the engine a couple of clicks above idle and then just fly around using only rudder. Just like old time single channel models. I could do the same thing with this plane. All in all its was a good day flying. I really need to get busy and build another Seniorita.

Excellent RS delighted to hear of your success and indeed there is just nothing like flying a Cadet:cool:

Yep John nothing flies like a Kadet. I have been piddling with the plane most of the night making adjustments and adding another ounce of weight to the nose. Now it weighs 5 pounds on the money. It has 5 sf of wing area which means it has a 16oz wing loading. A little more than the optomistic numbers on the box but still not bad. I have one Stik with a 23oz wing loading but it still takes off in just a few feet and can be slowed down to a crawl to land.

The new Avistar trainer has about a 22-23oz wing loading and from what I have read you really need to use the flaps with this plane. And thats a trainer? I think the old Avistar is a much better trainer plane. I wish I could find one.

It's too bad I missed you Saturday, Ratshooter. Another guy was there with a Kadet so I thought he was you. I had an ignition failure in my 50cc Extra and dorked up the landing gear. It was only my 3rd landing in the plane so I didn't manage to glide it in like I usually can. I got some good flights in on the Kaos though, and had some good conversations with the guys.

Hey Jester I just noticed you had posted. I went to the field this saturday the 12th but didn't fly. Just sat and talked to the only other flyer there. I am planning to be there the 19th. Maybe I will see you there. I will have the LT and most likely the Big Stik 40 too.
