Coming Back To The Fold
 

I have been out of the hobby for about 4 years, at that time my primary interest was racing, and sport flying with a lean toward pattern or imac capable stuff. I recently was invited to 'watch' a local race event by a former flying friend (he will burn in hell for getting me back into this). He put me on a Q500 in a 2-pole race and I ended finishing 4th of 9 in a 4 heat event that day, needless to say the first heat looked like I was flying something with a battery short, which is the subject of this post.

I am looking to replace all of my flight packs on the glow stuff, the packs in my transmitters, and get new stuff for my electrics.

Help as far as new tech, sources, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I'll never have the extra money to play that game, can I have your old stuff, can I can I.

I like my NIMH batteries, for receivers and transmitters. They have seem to have more "oomph" longer and are as forgiveable as nicads. But I will have to admit I just replaced a Rx pack that I accidentally completely discharged, just wouldn't recharge. So, do your homework. Biggest lesson I learned this year, check your batteries after every flight, with a voltmeter that can put a load on the system. My fagged out battery flights into the ground taught me that one. Worst thing to do is guess if you have another flight in a pack.

If you want the best Rx packs, get A123 packs from www.hangtimes.com. You'll need an inexpensive A123/ LiFe capable charger for them, but the amp capacity, weight, and durability can't be beat. A good standard LiFe is a viable choice too, but they aren't nearly as tough as the A123 version of that battery technology.
