Buddy cord

The last time I did fly 2.4 was just starting to come on strong, but I never got to it and stayed with my 72. Now I have a 2.4 Futaba 6JA 6-Channel S-FHSS. I also have a older Tower trainer that has the 4 channel 72. My question is can I find a buddy cord to work for the two? I want to use the 2.4 as the master and the older 72 as the slave. The reason is that a good friend of mine son wants to get into flying and if I can find a cord to "talk" between the two I will help him out. Thanks Mike.

I should also add that when I look at Tower Hobbies for a buddy cord I did find "FUTM4415" cord that the way I understand it will work, but I have been told by others that a 2.4 will not "talk" to a 72. Just checking to see what others think and/or know.

I have been told that the two won't work together. I have never tried it myself

My radio is an old Futaba 9-C with a Hitec 2.4 module, I use my old buddy cord and an old Tower 72 TX as the box. Once in a while I will use an old Hitec 7 TX as the box. Everything works just fine. To completely answer your question it's best to set up the plane and box then try them in the shop to make sure it works for you. It takes about three minutes to do.
The box isn't turned on and in my case doesn't know it has a 2.4 master. I had asked the same question at the field and got too many conflicting answers so decided to try it, works for me!!

If the two radios have the same trainer port....you should be good to go......I've even been successful using a modern "square port" radio with the old "DIN" connector on the buddy box with the proper cable adapter. The modes of communication to the airplane have nothing to do with the trainer system. The master "talks" to the aircraft through its system...72...2.4...or whatever....the buddy box talks to the master through the trainer port by using the DSC...Direct Servo Connection.....there is no "transmission" from the buddy box. As GB said....set it up....just make sure all the channels on the buddy box are talking to the same locations on the master...and of course....TEST TEST TEST! You dont want to be surprised!

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2111527http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2111528 Just noticed in the photo I have a 72 module in my Futaba at this time, reason, I'm setting up an old plane on 72PCM. The modules just pop in and out. I'm just showing the back of the Futaba has a square port and the Hitec has the round port. The old Tower TX I use also has a round port. Point is the old Futaba works just fine when in 2.4 as the master. I was told so many different things about 2.4 and 72 with engineers trying to baffle me with BS and Dazzle speak. It's just so much easier to try it then listen to all the crap.

I believe the manual for the Futaba 6JA says the trainer function won't work with a radio that has the round trainer cord plug as the dummy.
