Koverall Mishap

1 Attachment(s)
I'm looking for advice on repairing a total mess-up on my part where I over sanded the primed koverall on my airplane's elevator. I just got too aggressive trying to remove a small paint run and now I'm stuck trying to decide how to best repair. I can feel the weave fibers but can't tell if it went all of the way through. The primer used is Klass Kote # 50.

Thanks in advance.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2130489

Not sure with coverall/Klass Kote but with Stits fabric, I would cut a small piece of pinked tape, adhere it over the damaged area and re-prime. Yes you will be able to see the repair when you are all done but working full scale planes (civilian or otherwise) are seldom the shiny pristine things that most builders model. With several coats of primer and/or paint, the patch should blend in pretty well.

I've tried and failed to make sightly repairs to Koverall. I'd strip it and start over.

Depending on size of the flaw, I have had good luck patching with Polyspan. I apply the patch with Ambroid and apply a light coat or two of Ambroid to fill. Follow that with a light touch with the sandpaper and I doubt you will be able to see the repair. Silkspan works almost as well but takes more to fill and is not as strong. Polyspan is great stuff!

Polyspan is critical about which side of the material is "out", be sure you apply it properly.

I would just make a small patch and refinish the spot . It will show slightly but nobody but you will notice . You gotta love your plane warts and all . After a while it will have other dings from transport etc..
