Fuel Proofing Stickers and Decals

What is the best way to fuel proof stickers and decals?

bikerbc 01-18-2016 11:45 AM

I have never done anything to fuel proof them and so far they have been fine .

What kind of decals

What surface

What fuel?

Sorry, I didn't think about that. That sure would make it easier for you.

Covering is MonoKote and fuel is Wild Cat Glow Fuel 10% Nitro and the stickers are just the stickers that come with the plane from the factory. I'm not quite sure what they are made of. The plane is a Great Planes U-Can-do.

They'll be fine.

Clean your model after flying. If you do, the stickers should last for the life of the covering.

When you clean the plane. Don't use any cleaner with ammonia in it.
Ammonia activates the glue in monokote. Which means it will eventually loosen the trim usually along a seam or at the point on a trim piece.
i have never fuel proofed decals but I usually use vinyl from a sign shop

IF you are dealing with a painted surface, a coat of clearcoat over the top is all you would need. When we paint scale hydroplanes, we always install the decals either before or after the first coat of clear and then clear over the top to protect and seal the decals. One big difference is we run fuel that is 50%+ nitro and 16%+ oil so it's a whole different animal than the less than 20% fuel used in aircraft
