LA65 OS engine

Hi guys, I have a lab about the LA65 OS engine. I don't understand why does it have a glow plug and a carburettor at the same time; if it has a glow plug then it's a diesel engine, in which it doesn't need a carburettor right? Please help my misunderstanding. Thank you

No, it's not a diesel. Unlike a carborated gas engine, a diesel's speed is controlled by a fuel flow controller. It does, however, have no restriction on air flow. In the case of a gas or nitro motor, like your LA 65, engine speed is controlled by both air intake AND fuel flow. The carb barrel controls the amount of air going into the engine, more air means more RPM. The needle valve controls the fuel flow, preventing a lean or rich condition by balancing the fuel flow to the load AND the air being pulled into the engine

While the terms used are the same, the glow plug on a glow powered engine is completely different than on a diesel engine. Methanol can be ignited by catalytic action, so the much lighter glow plug replaces a spark ignition.

Something else to think about. The glow plugs used in the very few so equipped diesel engines used in cars and trucks are only used to get the engine started. Once the engine is running, the glow plug is powered down and compression alone causes the fuel to burn. To simplify things, that basically means glow plugs have been found to be not needed for automotive use. Now, that said, IF you can find a diesel R/C engine, it will operate totally different than your .65 or an automotive type diesel
