aeileron set-up
 

I am setting up a new plane with a 80" wing span and was wondering what is the best method to get the aeileron surface set as close as possible to "0" . It is a flat bottom wing and and I am trying to get everything set as close to "0" as possible before I fly the plane for the first time. I have been told to just "eyeball" it or place a small ruler flat on the wing and aeileron and turn the clevis until they are lined up. Do any of you have any other tips to make this process easier and more precise? Thanks

You'll need a straight surface, such as a straightedge or a piece of plywood that you know has a true edge. Place this on the underside of the wing, beneath the widest part of the aileron, so that it extends past it. While the aileron is against this edge, tape it to the wing in a couple of spots with masking tape so it can't move, making sure you maintain the alignment provided by the straightedge. The wider the masking tape you use, the firmer the aileron will be held in position. It only takes a couple of minutes, and once the aileron is in place you can set your control linkages so that when the servo is in neutral, there is no slop and no binding: you shouldn't hear the servo buzzing.
