Looking for trainer model advice please
Hi All,
I'm looking for advice on a trainer aircraft complete with SAFE & AS3X (and anything else that can help it fly and land!). Not bothered about cost so much as decent build quality and something that I can have fun with once I turn off SAFE, etc. I'm not the type of guy who'll have or want dozens of aircraft sitting in my shed at home, just one decent model for the occasions when I do want to fly. For some reason, I'm drawn to e-flite as a brand but very very open to suggestions. As I said, money not so important but build & quality of components are. Cheers Dazz |
Hey I bought an AeroScout with ASX & safe BNF for about $178
it flies well not too fast & not slow either... a GOOD Plane. you could go bigger. But until you learn just fly it up high and have a big landing area, to land on. |
If I were learning to fly RC, I'd definitely take advantage of a computer flight simulator. Today's flight Sims are very realistic and offer repeated mistakes until you figure out what corrections are needed to safely stay in the air.
I've taught several people how to fly and teach them to take off and land from BOTH directions. Once take off and landings are mastered the rest is getting confident with basic flying skills. Remember to have fun while you learn. Back in the day we used to "fly" ...until we crashed, then you had to tape or glue everything back together and have another go until one glorious day when you'd exclaim..." I got it " That day will be one you'll remember a long time. I remember my 1st successful flight from 1987. I also, unfortunately, remember most of my crashes, but those days made me a better and safer pilot and I pass my knowledge along when I can. Good luck and enjoy many decades of RC aviation! Sophia |
I second the aeroscout. I wanted something easy to take up and a relaxing flight or two... I find myself flying it more or more these days. I think its now 200 bucks but still worth it.

The Valiant 1.3m and Turbo Timber Evolution 1.5mm would both be good.
