How do I fix this? Minn you there?
1 Attachment(s)
I had to do some hacking away at the wheel wheels to accommodate some new robart 3/16 wires for my AT-6? I know I need to protect the wood from fuel. I've already soaked it with polyu and planning to put some thinned 30 minute epoxy on there. But for cosmetic purposes, I need to patch her up. Any ideas. Minn, how about one of those illustrations. :D
thanks |

Well, I'm not Minnflyer, but I'd suggest getting some light weight fiberglass and wetting it with thinned 30 minute epoxy. (30 because you'll need a little working time.)
You should be able to form it into the opening you've cut, then mix up some paint to match that blue. Dennis- |

Yuh, I had to due to new robart wires. They should be much better than the stock ones.

Here's what I would do (And what I have done)
Squirt a littly of that "Spray Foam Insulation" into the hole (And I do mean a LITTLE! That stuff swells up to about 5 or 6 times its original size) Let it dry and don't touch it when it's wet (The stuff is sticky as hell!) It dries sort of like styrofoam. Once dry, you can cut it to shape. THEN, if you so desire, you could lay somefiller and/or cloth over it. Something else you could try would be to lay some Waxed Paper over it to conform it to shape as it dries. But if you do this, be careful not to get any on the outside of the model, cause this stuff can be a bear to get off. |

I was thinking foam too. I think they sell some minimum expanding foam. I does not expand as much as the original stuff does.
I do like the epoxy and cloth idea. I think it would be less mess. Mask off any areas that you don't want t get epoxy on. If you are going to go the faom route I would use plastic and masking tape to tape off the wing. Also be careful, it will expand inside your wing and may come out or get on your retracts. Bill |

One other idea is to use polyester resin with A LOT of micro-ballons.
