Prop fit
 

With my very small past experience with props fitting on the crankshaft, the prop has always been "screwed" on to it for it to fit. On my K & B .65 Sportster, a Zinger, 12x4 wood prop did not need to be "screwed on, but it does fit snugly around the shaft. Is this ok, or do I need to replace the prop with one that has a smaller hole?

Yes it is ok to have a snug fit. Screwing it on makes it very hard to change if you break a prop to the hub. I would suggest you purchase a good prop reamer at you local hobby shop. Makes life a whole lot easier.

The first props that I used with my first airplane needed to be screwed onto the crankshaft. But I had problems with the prop nut coming loose when I started up the engine. Once I got a prop reamer and opened up the hole so that it slid on, I never had a problem with the prop nut.
