I had a misfortune with a plane and a small pond..but the plane is fixabel..i have peeled the monocote off the wings and rebuilding a few ribs. my question is can i paint over monocote. i want to try some airbrush stuff and jazz things up a bit.

I've heard of this being done with latex and then sealed with a thin coat of fuel proof clear. The problem is heat shrink covering is constantly expanding or contracting according to the temperature. That will crack the fuel proof paints that I know of. You would need to scuff the covering where you intend to paint. If you do not, it would not stick.

RC Modeler magazine just had a big article on painting. And yes, I believe, they did mention how to paint over monocote.

Yep, you can do it, I've done it several times. Just scuff up the covering and go to it. You want enough scuffing that you can see the difference in brightness compared to a non-scuffed bit. Obviously, different types of paint will flex better with the covering than others and so on.

And a bunch of thin coats is better than one thick one

Scuffing with a 'scotchbrite' green pot scrubber pad..
