Best Second Plane

I was wondering what you think is a good second plane. It's gonna be my christmas present, so it can't be too expensive. I'm looking at a Four-Star 40, as I want a plane that'll run on my GMS .47. BTW just learned to takeoff my kadet mk II today, and it was easier than i expected. My landing was different though. the instructor told me to bring it around for a low altitude, low speed pass, which inevitably turned into a really rough landing. Plane was fine, so all is good.

Your first instincts are perfect, go for the 4*40. It is very easy to build and fly and the GMS 47 is a good match. I have an OS FX 46 in mine.

Or the Great Planes Super Sportster. Equal in flight characteristics to the 4*'s, but a LOT better looking. :D

There are a few really good 2nd planes out there. The 4*, Sportster, Tower Kaos, Easy Sport, and others that I can't think of.

Almost anything called a "Sport" plane would be fine.

You might want to consider an Ultra Stick 40. Very easy to fly and lands nice and slow. I have an OS 46FX on mine and it is more than enough power. Building it with flaps will keep it interesting for a long time.

that question you pose is a very dangerous one, you are gonna get 400 different opinions. :)

I suggest a nice flyer like the 4 star as suggested but also might want to consider:

1. Ultra Stick 40 or 60 size
2. Seagull PC-9
3. Hanger 9 Cherokee

like Dennis states ther are numerous "sport" planes out there, I stat the ones I did becuase I have had them or fly them currently and they are very nice planes.

On a side note I loved my 2nd plane so much that I lost last year I found a used one recently and bought just becuase :) it was my first low wing plane and it flew like it was on rails. It was the Hobbico SkyVista.

good luck and enjoy

pm me or post here if you have other questions

From what I've read on here, the ultra sticks are good planes. I want to get a 60 size plane but the ultra stick 60 has the transparent covering. I don't know why this is exclusive to the 60 size ultra stick. The 40 and 120 look much better in my opinion.

RE: Best Second Plane

After lots of talk at the field and reading on RCU, I narrowed my choices down to a Mid*40 and 4*40. I opted for the Mid* because it has a slighly bigger wingspan, and I dont think I'm quite ready for a dragger yet. Got the Mid* yesterday from Tower to my suprise!!! I have however put a 4*60 in line for my third plane! It is on my TH wish list for all you who want to know! Just in case!:D Now all I have to decide is 2 smoke or thumper in the nose!!!
