XTRA EASY 2
 

JUST WONDERING IF ANY ONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. I JUST BOUGHT THE EXTRA EASY 2, IT SAID FROM BOX TO FLYING IN AN HOUR. HOWEVER MY TAIL SECTION DIDN'T FIT TOGETHER LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO. A CALL TO HORIZON AND THEY SAID, SHIP US THE TAIL AND WE'LL REPLACE IT. I'M A KLUTZ WHEN IT COMES TO BUILDING, BUT INSTEAD OF WAITING 2 WEEKS FOR A REPLACEMENT, I GRABBED MY EXACTO AND HOBBY GRINDER AND SAWED OFF THE 1/2 INCH OF WOOD NEEDED TO FIT THE TAIL, I ONLY HOPE THAT THAT WAS THE PROBLEM AND NOT THAT THE HOLES WERE NOT DRILLED IN THE WRONG SPOT.

I have an Extra Easy 2 that I started with (great plane), and had no problems with the construction of it. Took about 20 minutes to put it all together, and everything fit perfectly. I don't think I would have sawed anything off, especially if your new to the hobby. Personally, I think you should have returned the piece for a replacement.

I agree, I had mine done in about 1/2 hour only because I stoped when the neigbor came over to check it out. Mine fit together nicely, but I did have to grab a smaller screwdriver to get the tail screws in. Other than that, no complaints at all.

My Xtra Easy 2 took me an hour, with no experience. Half hour to put it together, except for the other half hour to get that one darn screw in the tail up into the elevator part. It all fit well. Can you give us a picture of yours Mr. Crashmaster showing where you had the extra 1/2" that needed to be taken off? - Joe

A small hint on putting the tail together with that pesky screw. First thing is to get that elevator pushrod off the servo and remove it from the airplane by sliding it out the back of fuse. Second, if you ever have a screw that is non-magnetic and you have to get it into a small space (i.e. tails of XTRA Easy 2's and Alpha's), put a small dab of CA on SCREWDRIVER tip and set screw on tip pushing and holding while CA cures.. This will hold it in place while you insert it into the slot/hole. I use this trick on full scales at work all the time. You can also use a small dab of thick grease. Once the screw is in place, it should pop off rather easy with a "rocking" motion. Hope this helps for future H9 assemblers and in future uses elsewhere.
