help me! engine for U-can-do-3D, 40
 

Hi all,

I was interessed in GP dazzler ARF, but it seems to have some problems about cover, and it is weak at the wings, so... im thinking in change to U-can-do-3d, ive seen videos, manual, and it seems to be a good plane... but, theres my questions, in the GP manual the engine is a 4stroke, but im interested in the OS 46.la blue and that is a 2 stroke engine, i dont know if it is a good engine, but is cheap, (the FX is to expensive for me)! How can i install a 2 stroke engine ih the u-can-do 3d? i need to make a bigger hole in the plastic for the muffler, right? the engine is installed up-side-down, but im afraid of that because ill use in a grass runway, and it could be sand in carburator.
What prop do u recommend?

A two stroke is fine in the U-CAN-DO .46 but you will be VERY disappointed with an LA .46 in this plane. You definitely need a good .46 ball bearing engine. An OS .50FX would be my choice for a two stroke.

I have the OS .46 LA in my Kadet trainer. Great engine, but nowhere near enough power for what you are going to want to do with the U CAN DO..

Outside of a trainer plane the L.A. Series is best used as a paper weight. Seriously man the L.A. is FAR too weak for the UCD. It will lift it off the ground and do some very basic aerobatics but thats as far as it will take you. I wouldnt even recommened a BB .46 on this plane without some kind of special pipe.

I understand, but the O.S. .50 SX Ringed is too expensive! Can i mount in U CAN DO a 60 engine? like Thunder Tiger GP .61 ABC or a Tower Hobbies .61 Ball Bearing ABC Schnuerle, it is really cheaper than OS 50fx, do u think is it apropriate to this plane? Tks

Yes you can mount that engine on the UCD. I have seen a .91 fourstroke mounted and hear about guys mounting .90 2 strokes in there and getting really good results. I would go with the Thunder Tiger engine over the Tower Hobbies engine.

Don't worry about it being heavier if it will fit. You just add a bit of tail weight, move the battery back, or something like that to make it balance right. Put it this way, a 5.0 Mustang engine is way heavier than a Chevy Cavalier engine, but it will make that Cavalier go like hell if you can fit it in there. You gain a lot more HP than extra weight.. :) - Joe

Not sure if you realize it but he's talking about the .40 size U-CAN-DO. A .90 two stroke will fly the crap out of the .60 size.

Joelansing, I think you fall under the old school of flight where we stuck the biggest motor that would fit in there and thought it made performance better. And in this case the weight of a .60 is not an issue nor is the weight of a .90 sized motor.

However, just to set the record straight a 3D bird needs plenty of umph but you also have to worry about wing loading. Also B.H.P can be a very deceiving thing. For 3D flight you need vert. pull power. Generally static thrust is a better indicator than B.H.P. For a 3D plane you want the motor to be at the min. of 1 1/2 times the amount of static thrust in compairison to the planes overall weight. When looking at the stats on paper (B.H.P for the most part) the 2 stroke motor will seem like the obvious choice. However, many times the 4 stroke of the same engine class (.46 2 stroke, .72 4 stroke) is better for 3D do to the ability to sling a larger prop without reducing RPM's, this gives the 4 stroke the advantage of more vert. pull power as well as the ability to throw more air over the control surfaces for 3D flight.

What is you experience level
if this is your second or 3rd plane and you not worried about 3d then the Thunder tiger 46 pro will work great especially with the tower muffler
I would mount the engine sideways with the muffler hanging down if I were you.

Hmm, yes im refering to U-Can-do 3d 46 and not the 60 size

It is my second plane, my first is the PT-40
So... do you think a 46 BB can make aerobatics and acceptable hovers? I just dont want an engine that dont have power to pull it up.
Which one is better? Tower Hobbies .46 Ball Bearing ABC Schnuerle or Thunder Tiger Pro .46 BB ABC.
whats the differct between BB or not? Tks

The TT .46 pro BB engine is better than the tower engine. However, go ahead and buy a .60 sized BB 2 stroke. YOu will thank yourself for it later.

please help me.i need to know asap if i can put a 108 os fsr on a u can do 3d .60.it weighs 26.5 oz and its puts out 3 bhp.please help. i apprieciate any information.thanks.

As stated above, you will be limited to just basic aerobatics, I doubt it will hover at all with any .46, especially an OSLA. Spend the extra money now and get a Ball Bearing .61 for it, maybe even a Tower 75 or GMS 76, I considered both of those for mine when I bought it, but I waited and went with a Saito72. This is one plane that you will need the extra power for if you want to get into 3D flying. If you do get this plane, get a 5cell 6volt RX battery because of the servo extentions, they will drag your battery down faster.
