Micro receiver
 

Would it be OK to install a micro receiver inside a typical sport aircraft, like a 4*60? What about a .25 trainer? Would the range be smaller than that of a normal receiver?

As long as you're talking dual conversion Rx like the Hitec 535 or 555. The little ones from
GWS 4np or Hitec Feather single conversion won't cut it. I've used the 555 in a 90 size plane.

Being a former Husker now living near Lawrence, Ks. I was sorry to hear about all the tire
slashing before the NU/KU game. Just a few punks can put a bad light on a game weekend.

As Randy said; as long as it's a dual conversion receiver you'll be fine. I've had a 555 (Hitec) in a sport plane for a number of years.

The FMA M5 will perform as good or better than any other receiver.

The receiver I am talking about is a JR 610. Does anyone know if this is dual conversion? Also what is bad about a single converstion receiver?

Not familar with the 610. In reading the Horizon Hobbies site, they claim the 610 has out of
sight range and has interference protection.
A single conversion does not filter out the stray signals. The ultra-lite electric planes use the
GWS style singles with a good range of no more than 500 ft. especially if there are other
pilots flying and using a freq. that is only 10 or 20 mhz. from your's. These small ones are
only 3/4" sq. and about 4 or 5 grams wt.

I don't know about the jr 610, but i've got a jr 700 in my trainer, and a hitec triple-nickle in my combat planes, never had any trouble with any of them(the 555 is a tough little bugger...:eek:)

the cheaper micro recievers will accept interferance from almost any frequency. the hitec feather is a bit better, but it still doesn't have the range you need with the filtering you also need. gas engines will create interferance and you should really go with a reciever such as a futaba or hitec. futaba is a bit more pricy but i like their products a lot

The Hitec Feather is a single conversion receiver and very prone to interference.

Wether or not a reciever is single conversion or double conversion has absolutely no bearing on what its range or sensitivity is. You can get comparable results from either in that department.

I have been flying a Hitec Electron 6 mini receiver in my Funtana all summer, works great... love it. Only got 1 or 2 radio hits all summer, flown with as many as 7-8 planes in the air at once off two runways, never a problem.

i am aware of that. all the doal conversion does is filter out signals better.

If that's the case Rodney, I guess we should all just pay $28 for GWS single conversion, 4 channel receivers (crystal included). Why spend $70 (plus $10 for the crystal) on a dual conversion?

There is only ONE single conversion receiver that I would trust a plane to at a crowded field, and that one is made by Berg. While it may be POSSIBLE to get similar performance from a single conversion receiver, please don't mislead people into thinking that all single conversion receivers will perform as well as any dual conversion. Doing that is both misleading and dangerous.

The JR610 is a excellent RX, I have 4 of them and use them in everything from my Slow Stick to my 64" T-34 and never got a glitch, The 610 is a standard RX They have started making smaller ones like the R700 any RX made by JR is a standard RX with no less range than any other RX

There's lots of bad info here so far.

When you're looking at micro-receivers, don't get fixated on single or dual conversion. Look for what the manufacturer has to say about intended applications and range. Great Planes states 900ft for their micros, Hitec states 1000ft for their Feather, and FMA states theirs are full range. This is what is important. SC or DC is not indicative of range.

FWIW I have both the Hitec 555 and FMA M5 and both perform well in my applications (2M EP glider/flying wing)with no reception or range issues.

w3e kow that about the single conversion micro recievers. we know we don't need dual conversion for those. we jsut got sidetracked.

Just to add a bit more confusion, all JR FM Rx's aren't duel conversion in the normal sense. They use their own odd-ball flavor of single conversion plus some extra filtering processing. It works, and works well, but it isn't duel conversion. (this is partly why JR crystals are not compatiable, while you can swap FMA, Hitech, and (I'm told) futaba around with no issues.

I routinely swap FMA and Hitech crystals between FMA and Hitech RXs with no issues. FMA tech support even told me the crystals are the same, the FMA crystals are just a tad shorter, but don't have that neat paper handle that makes it easier to get in and out.

On a more related note, there is an issue with some single conversion RXs out there. If you have a transmitter on 23 channels away from it, it can go nuts. My GWS single conversion RX on channel 27 does this whenever anyone turns on anything on channel 50. They don't all do this, and it's a non-issue on other bands besides 72mhz.

Holy ancient thread, Batman!! (sorry, couldn't resist). I've been flying Hitec gear almost exclusively since about 2003, and I don't even remember the 535 receiver. What's more, it's not even listed on their page anymore. If it's similar in specs to the 555, it should be fine for what you are proposing, but I'd have to see the specs before passing judgment.

In case anyone is interest ( this is an old and tired thread ).

At our field ALL of the single conversion RX's, I've tried will glitch because of the proximity to pager and cell phone towers, WiFi and power lines.
This happens when the plane approaches the corners of our flight box.

None of the Dual Conversion RX's do this.

I've had mixed luck with JR "Full Range" ( but they are really single conversion as indicated ) RX's such as the 7x0 & 6x0 series plus others.

Hitecs DC have been great. No problems there too.

But the best find for me were the BP Hobbies Coronas.

The price is right, and I've flown them on everything from foamies through large scale planes w/o problems.

No glitches where the JR' full range RX's have failed...

The JR 610UL series have been a joke for me... glitch, glitch, glitch, glitch.

535 is a good long range receiver that was replaced by the 555. That 535 is pretty old. That would be my only concern.

go with corona dual conversion,they are superb value for money and i have had no glitching at all.
