Fuel Overflow
 

When I fill my fuel tank, I watch for fuel to come out the vent line from the tank to indicate the tank is full. My reaction time sucks, and I end up wasting fuel by pumping it on the ground. It's not alot of fuel, but it is still a waste and putting it on the ground can't be the best solution. What are some ways to catch that "overflow" so that I can stop wasting it?

Get a small clear jar, and epoxy a piece of tubing to it (even clear plastic film canisters work). Attach it to your vent line to catch the excess fuel. At the end of the day, pour it back into your jug.

I use one of those small party size bubble bottles, I just return the fuel to the jug each time I fill the tank... and oh... make sure you vent the cap on your bottle :-)

I catch overflow in an old fuel tank and pump it back into the jug at the end of the day. ...JIM

The grass at our field always seems to be the greenest in the pits where all the glow fuel is spilled. Really. :D

Uh, that's funny because glow fuel kills grass. You sure those few green spots aren't the only places glow fuel WASN"T spilled? :D

Yeah, normally glow fuel does kill grass. I certainly wouldn't dump any on my own lawn. For some weird reason though, the grass in our pit area seems to have acquired an appetite for it. A lot of fuel gets spilled there and the grass would make ChemLawn proud! :D

I just use an old fuel tank. Use my fuel pump to pump fuel back into my can at the end of the day.

I do a "return" right to the fuel bottle.

My procedure is as follows:
Pull the line off the needle valve. Plug pump line into that.
Pull the line off the muffler, out return line onto that.

Put pump draw line (with filter on it) in to the can. Put end of draw line pointing into can.

Pump. When tank gets full, fuel overflows through return line straight into the fuel can it came from. Not a drop spilled. Reverse pump a couple of times, sucking all the fuel in the return line back into the tank.
Disconnect the return, re-attach line to muffler.
Disconnect line that was on needle valve, and replace on needle valve.
Reverse pump so that all fuel in lines gets returned to can.

Done.
