Balance with weights or Trim?
 

Hi,

I just put the wing of my 2m glider together and I noticed that the left side is heavier than the right. If I put three US quarters and a penny (sorry, I don’t know how many grams that is) on the right tip I can get it to balance better.

My question is should I be thinking about weighting the right side or can I correct this by trimming the plane?

Allways balance with weight BEFORE you fly when in doubt balance slightly nose heavy.
Even the best built and striagest planes may require trim.. Thats what the levers are there for!!
After you land one click on the thim slide is usually equal to about 1 turn on the clevis make mechanical adjustment recent the trim slides and refly repet the untill the plane tracks in a manner acceptable to your flying style. Also remember trim settings can and will change across throtle settings many planes trimed for straight and level at 1/2 throtle will climb at full if you have a computer radio you can mix in some down elev whenever the throtle goes to full to compensate if you do not then trim for the throtle setting you will be flying at the majority of the time and compensate with a little elevator manually.

Ke5in, you were going in the right direction. If your wings are unbalanced by all means correct with weights first. Otherwise you will experience a roll to one side with changes of speed if you just correct with trimming. Happy flying.

Absolutely!!! Always balance the wing assembly laterally. I like to do this just before I put the final Piece of covering on to allow access to the structure. I like to make a small balsa box and put my weight in and either CA or epoxie the weight in. Hope this helps.
