Mark - That was the old RCM Trainer 40 I think. I've built several of them and never had a wing fold. Plans are available for it through RCM. It is a very good airplane, but probably not the best primary trainer.

Are the same? The one I built was a kit - Great Planes Trainer 40 . . . . I agree with you on you opinion of it's applicability . . . It did require that you have a good pilot next to you, and you did need to really focus on what you were doing - but damn it was fun!

Well, I don't know for a fact that it is the same, but I do know that when Great Planes bought out Bridi, the quality went to crap. For example, I bought a Dirty Birdy .40 from Great Planes and the kit was missing pieces, had ribs cut too short, etc. There was very little right about the kit. Previous to that, every kit that I bought from Bridi (including the RCM Trainer 40) were all top notch kits.

Anyway, to answer your question, I don't know if it was the same plane or not, but from your description it sounds like it. Does the first model on this page look familiar?

Yup - this looks like it . . the plane on the top picture looks correct - I didn't build with flaps or bd ailerons. I remember that I fully sheeted the the top wings . . . I least I think I did . The Trainer 60 in the store is not fully sheeted . . . But everything else looks the same. My 'nose piece' kept on breaking off, so I stopped gluing it on . . it worked fine w/o it - looks like the same as in the picture!

the pt-40 isn't too bad. i learned on that one. it was light, easy to build, thurough instructions, and all the hardware was great. it is actually more capable than you think. i learned to hover it with my .46 fx until it finally dropped out. this was due to control surface sizes, but mainly, the .46 fx on 10% had about a 1-1 thrust radio so any control imputs and it dropped. anyway, great trainer. as far as trainers go, that covering is some of the best. it has held up pretty well, except to objects like heavy sunglasses and mufflers.
