Where to find an experienced pilot???

I've been looking into rc planes for a while. I am already highly experienced with rc cars. My problem is that there are no flying clubs anywere near me (there use to be one until it got shut down due to noise complaints). On the other hand my neighbor flys warbirds biplanes Ect. The problem there is that my family dosen't have a very good freindship due to a land dispute[:@]:(

Thanks for any help

You say there are no flying clubs anywhere near you. If this is the case, where are you planning on flying? If there's absolutely nowhere for you to go, and you want to learn on your own, get a Realflight G2 Simulator and practice, practice, practice. For the most part I don't really suggest going this route, but it can be done. Your experience with R/C cars will be useful for the mechanical aspects, but not for the actual flying.

go small electric. is is really hard to screw up on those. when you start off, it will be a bit wierd. lucky for you, (this was my case too) you have rc cars and don't have to worry about directional dyslexia. (when the controls are seemingly reversed coming twards you) there is ,howevre, an added dimension to that. you have to worry about rudder, not just ailerons. anyway though, get a cheap little park flyer, set it up and go fly. in the event you manage to total it, you are in only about $20 and you can jsut get another little foamie.

With all due respect (and please understand that I understand that I know absolutely NOTHING about your land dispute), maybe this is an opportunity to mend fences. Most RC Flyers are more than anxious to help someone just starting up. It makes them feel good and you too. Sounds like there may be two wonderful opportunities here and a good excuse to make them happen. :)

A quick search on the AMA website showed 10 clubs within 20 miles of you. Get some help, you'll be glad you did!

The AMA website has all clubs listed so do a search and you might find one you did'nt know existed.

I agree with LearningMan on this one. If my worst enemy came over and wanted to know about it then I would do it b/c I love talking about it. I might stick him with a heavy brick errr...I meant warbird to start off with but I would entertain his questions at least.

If there USED to be a club near you, there still is! They just fly somewhere else now.

One problem with promoting this sport is that so often we are stuck out in the boonies that no one sees us. Check the AMA website, or ask at your local RC hobby shop, they'll know where the flying is.

If you want to improve the relationship, then begin talking about your interest in RC and that you need his help. If he smiles (not evil) then you may have a future best friend! It depends on how hooked he is on RC and how generious of a personality he has.
