What is 3D?
I know it may seem silly, me asking this, but from the numerous hours of research I did on RC planes, I never seen anything about 3D, could anyone tell me what it is please?

RE: What is 3D?
According to what I read, 3d is doing stunts at below-stall-speed, like hovers and torque rolling.
what's prop hanging? |
RE: What is 3D?
Uhhh....I find it hard to beleive that you did over 20 min. of research without comming across the term 3D.
yub, yub whatever...was close on the definition, but there is a whole lot more to it than hovers and torque rolls. Its best to ask this same question in the 3D room. A lot of the guys in here (besides myself and a handful of others) are just starting out and/or dont do 3D so they can only tell you what they have heard about not what they have experienced. |
RE: What is 3D?
Maneuvers, done with the wing in a stalled condition.
Lift is generated by the engine rather then wing |
RE: What is 3D?
So 3d can only be done with a plane and engine combo that provides unlim. vertical, rihgt?
Thanx |
RE: What is 3D?
Yes and NO
Typically you want a min. static thrust of 1.5 times the planes weight. A blender is a 3D maneuver that does not require unlimited vertical. I had a 25% Edge 540 powered with a saito 1.20. Very scale flight!! But it would blender well. Like said before, there is a lot more to it than hovering and torque rolls. You just see this most b/c its the most eye catching thing to do. Plus its kinda hard illustrate a blender, waterfall, 3D snap, etc, etc. in a still shot. |

Seriously. 3D is all about making the plane do things in which the wings are more of a hinerance than a help. I.e. Planes are all about generating lift to overcome gravity. 3D is all about reducing the tift of the wing intentionally (mostly by reducing airflow) so that the plane can do things that are impossible with lift available. This mostly involves manouvers where momentum and pure engine thrust are the key components. gus |

RE: What is 3D?
In very basic terms.....when you see a plane tumbling over itself, snapping, spinning, hovering, etc in a small area over the runway, that guy is doing 3D :D

:):):)
I can't wait till somebody gets us a stable Osprey model. I'd get my hands on it! |
RE: What is 3D?
Take it from a 3D pilot...Helis are sooooo yucky
|
RE: What is 3D?
3D is hovering, torque rolling, elevators, parachutes, flat spins, inverted flat spins, climbing flat spins, harriering, inverted harriering and much more. When you get tired of flying in a circle 3D will be your best friend. It will challenge you and keep you in this sport for many years.
PS- I fly a heli and it is not the same but just about as cool. |
RE: What is 3D?
:) Ladies and Gents there you have it from THE Famous "Billy Hell" Well known for "The Billy Hell pose"

Hey I've done that. Woohoo
Of course we picked up the pieces right afterwards. ORIGINAL: glowplug In very basic terms.....when you see a plane tumbling over itself, snapping, spinning, hovering, etc in a small area over the runway, that guy is doing 3D :D |
RE: What is 3D?
Basic definition of crash is overweight P-47 on final :)

1 Attachment(s)
A 3D plane...
Compare the Control Surfaces to whatever plane you've got. Mine are Bigger... They are needed in order to control the plane with ONLY the air from the PropWash while hovering. |
RE: What is 3D?
Helicopters are to model aviation what motorcycles are to motor sports. They are neat, but let some other guy be the one to put on the show. To me 3D is about planes that are seemingly capable of defying gravity. I watched a buddy yesterday put on a clinic with a FUNTANA 40 pwered with a SAITO 72. Just incredible! Hovers at 1/3 throttle with a 14-4 prop. A 7 year old boy was sharing the xmitter and could land it like a trainer. If you are looking to get into 3D it would be hard to do much better than this for a simple combo!

RE: What is 3D?
www.downonthedeck.com .......you will find many 3d machines on this great website..........if you have like cable internet like i do.....watch the videos......that's what i like to do....they load realy fast so i just sit here watching them...........

RE: What is 3D?
add the word "pieces" in there somewhere. THEN it's a crash ;)
"stable Osprey"??? Isn't that an oxymoron? |
