That sounds cool. I've seen people with Barbi's in their plane, one of my favorites was Marvin the Martian. But be careful, as I saw one poor victem get sucked out of the plane, tragically dieing upon impact. Sad story. But the plane survived thankfully. So just he's wearing a seat belt, or harness. ;)

I certainly do have a pilot in my 25% Sukhoi. He's removable. Pilot figures are an IMAC requirement but I take him out to save weight for sport flying (rather pointless, yes, but every little pit counts!).
Friend of mine had a pilot figure that was ejected THROUGH the canopy on impact. Another friend crashed his Snoopy-piloted plane only to have me break Snoopy upon the recovery effort. CA tot he rescue! Then the owner broke snoopy again... Poor guy.

I want a nice bust of Dan Quayle in my cockpit. That will explain why my plane makes all those dumb moves, and can't spell potato :) - Joe

Snoopy is used quite a bit. If you buy a Williams Bros. pilot, he can be reworked a bit to make him more realistic. First thing is to not make his eyeballs big saucers. Look at someone's eyes and you will see their top eyelid comes down over the pupil slightly. It's not a big dot in the middle of the eye which always looks garish.

You can use contact cement to add a beard or mustache and a little work with some oil paints will give the skin a more realistic non-monotone look.

Pick up a book by Shepard Paine to learn more about figure painting. The man is a god when it comes to painting models and figures.

:D Painting my Williams Bros pilot was a pain, luckily, he doesn't look too garish. His shirt is kinda too bright though.

I like this cool looking guy from Balsa USA. Pricey even unpainted, but would be perfect for my current project.

i use the jack in the box antenna ball. my favorite one is the baseball one with the batting average of 000. it's the jack in the box fiure, without the cone, wearing a blue baseball helmet, blowing a bubble with pink bubble gum. however, i've seen guys fill a small water baloon full of fake blood with a litle sharp edge on their fake panel so when they crash blood sprays everywhere inside the cockpit. what i would really like to see is an ejecting pilot. obviously, you couldn't do this and be an ama member. however, you have a cockpit with little mini 1/2 A rocket motors on the front joint to blow the canopy back in the wind and then just as in real life, 1/4 of a second later the pilot is blown out of his seat by an explosive charge. simultaneously, the explosive bolts you used for your engine ignite sending the engine off with a parachute attatched. once that happens, you plane is so light that it just falls to the ground damaging none of the servos and if you are lucky, the pilot gets his head spiked on a weed or something and the bloodbag explodes. this is assuming you have had a KATO and want to go down in style.

I use to use Jack balls in my Kaos. I'd rotate them every season.

I should put Ray Charles in one of my planes to explain away any "dumb thumbs" :D

To put a very SEMI-SERIOUS answer here. Your pilot is only limited to your imagination. I have found several pilots in the local dollar stores. A cheap doll and a saw do the job. Any stuffed toy of an appropriate size. Pictures of a loved or hated one in the wallet size or so mounted on apiece of lite ply. You just take a picture to one of the Kodak machines and have the appropriate size reprints made. Cheap toys also make cool pilots. Just let your imagination run wild.

Just a suggestion to new installers. Use a flexible canopy glue such as RC56 or similiar to keep your pilots in position. I have seen pilot figures that have been mounted with just a drop of CA bouncing around inside a canopy after just 1 flight. [8D]
