Rx Question ???
 

Hi,

Can anyone answer this for me i normally use a Futaba R147F RX in my planes which is a 7 Channel Rx which in the uk retails around £55.00 but i went to the local LHS and they were out and recommened i got the GWS (GWR-8m) 8 Channel RX wich is Less than half the price at £23.00 they said it is just as good and will work perfectally with my Futaba 6EXA aslong as i use Futaba Crystals......


Can someone just confirm this for me, as if it works its a bit annoying no one told me this before as ive brought 7 R147F's now lol

Well, first off: You get what yer pay for as they say....:)

I've used GWS receivers in park flyers, I'd hope that 8 channel Rx is a bit more sophisicated than their micro receivers, I would also have thought that you would need to use a GWS crystal in it.

Best thing is to just try it, make sure you range test it and to be sure fly close in until you're sure you can trust it....

You should use a GWS crystal in a GWS receiver, not a Futaba crystal. Now, it may very well be that the GWS and Futaba duel conversion crystals are compatible, but unless you know that for sure, match the RX and RX crystal brands.

That said, when dealing with FM, any RX on the same channel with the same "shift" will work with your transmitter. There are lots of options from Hitec, FMA, and many others that will work quite well with your Transmitter.

"Shift" is the direction the FM signal is modulated. In the US, Futaba and Hitec shift one way, JR and Airtronics shift the other. I've heard that in Europe that isn't the case, and you can even use JR and Airtronics RXs with your Futaba TX, though I haven't seen that verified. The result being that in the US, RXs are labeled as either "JR/Airtronics compatible" or "Futaba/Hitec" compatible.

Some RX's are shiftable, and can work with any FM Transmitter, Hitec and a few other companies make some.

The crystal thing was wondering me 2, ive tried the Futaba one in thier and seems to work fine......... but after reading your replys i looked it up on thier site and it states.......

That's cool. And not a huge surprise. Hitec and FMA RXs use the same crystal (according to the FMA tech I talked to), and I interchange them all the time. (I fly combat competitions, so I change channels a fair bit). Other guys I know have interchanged Futaba and Hitec, though I haven't done so myself. So it appears likely that there is a "standard part" crystal being used by many RX designers.

Btw, this would only apply to duel conversion RXs. A single conversion RX (such as a GWS micro RX (I have one of those in a park flyer) would use a different crystal for sure. Also, JR brand gear seems to use a different crystal, and their receivers are apparently not duel conversion the typical sense, they use a different technique apparently.
