Dragon Lady ok for second plane???
 

i got a dragon lady arf at a swap meet for a good price. i was looking for a 4 star 60, but there were none to be had. i like the dragon lady and got it. i was told by a couple of people that this is a good low wing plane for beginners. it will land nice. i wont be flying it right away when the season starts. i will start out with my spad trainer just to get my thumbs back in shape. but i hope to be flying it soon after the season is going. any comments on that info? was i misguided. i hope not. thanks.

I'm getting close to finishing mine, but I bought it based on all the info here about it being a great second plane, float in on landings, and a great flyer.
I don't think you'll be dissapointed. So far I havent had any issues will the build. It has been very straight forward. The only thing I'm trying to deal with is the throttle linkage. It's pretty tight coming past the fuel tank, and the tank support. It works fine, but I just need to make a few minor bends so it doesn't rub.
I chose to install the blind nuts for the wing bolts, but I did it after I had already CA'd the threads in the holes. So I ended up cutting a couple small pieces of ply, and installing blind nuts in them, and epoxying them underneath the existing blocks. I just didn't like relying on CA'd wood to support the G forces put on a wing.
You certainly were not missguided, unless the price was really bad. She is a beautiful plane.

i did do a search. i was pleased since i bought the plane not having any info. i used the blind nuts too. they are on an angle though. the ply wood is angled so the nuts are too. it will hold fine though. did you build the kit or the arf. i have the arf. i am not really crazy about the color and cover job. i was going to try and accent it without recovering it. thanks for the input

I have the ARF too. I was also considering some type of color accents, but I'll probably wait. I was trying to find an ARC so I could do it up how I wanted. Maybe a winter 2004 project.;)
Now I'm trying to find the right pilot.

I picked up the Dragon Lady in a trade since I didn't have anything between .40 size profiles and large gassers. Several pilots in our club fly the 4 Star series and this isn't that much different. The motor is an Enya .80 and the canopy is an extra one I had for a GP Skybolt. I didn't care for the Barbie Doll that was aboard. You won't be sorry with your choice.

I have a Dragon Lady with a .91 YS on the front. It flies great when the engine actually runs well. I think you will enjoy it as a 2nd plane.
