Between Magnum, Evolution, and Tower .46 engines which would you guys pick? Price don't matter but i want one of those since they have remote needle valves.

If price doesn't matter, why not the new O.S. .46 AX? I would say that it would be the best bet of them all! I've had the FX and it was the best .46 I've ever had. It's just as powerful as my 0.61!!! for a little less weight. If money is no object, why would even consider Magnum and Tower? They are budget engines!

And... in terms of non-beginner .46, there are tons of them that are even better and much much more expensive. If you are talking about a good .46 engine with good power and easy to use, then the .46AX is golden, if you are looking for something you want to go pylon racing in, then there are better (more expensive) choices

I would go with the Evolution. I reviewed one last summer, and I was really impressed.

The Evolution is a very good motor based on 20-30 flights w/ one of my students' planes.

If the budget permits, I'd go w/ an OS .46 FX (if you can find one) or an AX.

I've not had good luck w/ setting up Magnum .46's and Tower .46's - the OS and Evolution are great right out of the box; I know that both will set up easy, start easily, and run reliably and powerfully, even if the installation isn't perfect.

The long term is important too -- The Evolution will probably be fine - just no long term data on it yet -- I'm certain that the OS will keep giving great power long enough to outlast several airplanes.

never used the evolution ,tried three towers was not happy,had ok luck with magum pro engines,magum gp not happy,I would buy the os fx or ax

Do you no of any online hobby sites that sell evolution and Futaba. all the ones i look at have one or the other but never both

I have 3 OS engines and like every one of them. I recently bought a Saito 4 stroke and really like it too.

Go with the OS FX/AX engine... you won't be disapointed. My Trainer came with a Megatech engine, and I swapped it out with an OS due to the amount of deadsticks from it's sloppy needle-valve. OS was bolt-on, fuel up, and flick it over a couple times, and never had an issue since. Gobs of *RELIABLE* power. Worth every cent.

My LHS sells enyas and they have 5 year warranty which is the lognest i have seen and 1 year crash protection would an enya .50 cx be good?

Enya makes fine engines, they just aren't as common. For 2-stroke engines, my favorites are Irvines. Better quality and performance than the OS for about the same price.

My only ENYA 2 stroke is a 1983 vintage 45 CX / ABC motor. It's been a horse. It was flown hard for 2 yrs, , then stored for 14 yrs, now for the past 3 years flown almost continuously on a trainer that sees action almost weekly for goofy fun aerobatics (yes,that's right!).

It's never had any service or maint other than crash repairs, and it's dead-nuts solid and reliable.

My experience with evolution 46 was a nightmare. Currently my engine is being repared by then, replacing the carb which was screwed by factory.
I maybe unlucky but wouldn't buy evolution again.

I had 6-8 students with the Evo engine this last season, and they have been darn good engines. Between the three you mentioned, I'd go with the Evo first. The OS engines are nice, and not at all a bad choice.

Lee1, the reason you don't see Evo and Futaba in the same mail order place is that they are distrubted by arch-enemies Great Planes and Hanger9. Most big online stores are closely affiliated with one or the other, but rarely both. TowerHobbies, for example, is owned by Great Planes, who import OS and Futaba. So it's no surprise their featured products have OS engines and Futaba radios. If you want both in the same place, you ususally have to go to the smaller LHS's out there, they are more likely to work with multiple distributors.

So what does everybody thing about Super Tigre? I had one on my first plane, a .40 abc, (10+ years ago!) and am considering upgrading my Avistar with a .45 abc in a couple months.

A65 I like my GS45. Works well and is powerful and very quiet. You will like it.

As for the original poster. Of the 3 I would buy the EVO. I hear lots of good things about them. Have you considered a Thunder Tiger 46 Pro? they are supposed to be a very good engine at a very good price. If price is not an object I would buy an Irvine. I have 2 53's and am completely satisfied with them. Good luck with whichever you choose.
